  1. I believe you can simply enter them into the catalog as linked assemblies (correct me if I am wrong on this or if this is not what you meant). This is a scary workflow when you have people poking around in there that shouldn't be or have little understanding of what is what or more importantly what NOT to do. The only possible issue with this is that if multiple people try to use the same externally linked catalog it may become a read-write permission nightmare. I think we drifted away from that concept because the sharing of catalogs. Now we use them very differently and store larger assemblies in a separate 3D drive as a scene that only I and one other person use. Luckily most of the people here so rarely open IC that they have out of date versions and cannot open the files anyway so no harm no foul...unless files are moved and the links all get broken as a result, which has happened. - Spencer
  2. The crypto world is going through some significant changes right now and farms are being relocated, exiled, etc. so I'm sure we will see some odd behavior is card prices and availability in the short term (hopefully not the long term) so I think waiting is probably the best play for GPU related hardware at the time being. Just keep an eye on those prices, who knows...maybe they could even go down for a change.
  3. 2021-06-21 09-06-18.mp4 This is a "quick" first try at it. This is mostly the way I would do it. Keep in mind that I am working in inches (I would rather not be) so the scale came in odd, but the process is the same. Be sure to put in tiny bend reliefs where needed (only two places on this one). -Spencer
  4. I do not believe this would work because there are multiple "slots" in the geometry and when it tries to leave a slot it will not be able to. In other words this method would not be able to be constrained. -Spencer
  5. This is very common. It generally depends on how you have placed your dims. If you pick an edge to edge for instance, it will likely update fine. A point to point may lose the reference. The reattach function has never worked as far as I know and more times than not, trying to manually reattach also will not work. Delete them and replace is the only advice I have for this unfortunately. -Spencer
  6. I actually really like that. Looks like engineering graph paper a little bit.
  7. There are tons of ways to do this, but this quick video might help you choose a method. Keep in mind that when you drop a new block (unless the catalog item was modified) it will automatically be in alignment with the world axis. Is you are really really struggling with this for some reason you can always look at face (mine is F7) and then when creating the views use "scene" orientation. -Spencer 2021-06-09 09-04-48.mp4
  8. I use sheet metal every day and have not had this happen to me. Maybe graphics driver might help?
  9. I would use Blender for this for sure. It will only take about an hour or less. There are probably tons of tutorials, but using the node layouts it would be fairly quick. You can even take a picture of a lime and use "crazyBump" to create the actual texture to put onto the object. An example of the results of this workflow are attached. It started as a flat photo and through nodes.... presto, 3D rock landscape. I also attached an example node layout you could use. -Spencer Edit: I also want to point out that I used a displacement modifier on this one also, which will not be seen in the nodes.
  10. I opted for more of a light grey because it is easy on the eyes while also maintaining a clarity of title blocks, etc. You may want to change your grid lines though because they can get hard to see at times. -Spencer 2021-06-07 15-13-20.mp4 2021-06-07 15-21-55.mp4
  11. Very interesting. I have had this issue before, but once and only once with a specific assembly. Unfortunately it was a prototype that I have been developing so I couldn't post any questions about it, but this is good to know, Thanks.
  12. Is it a specific file causing this to happen or are all webview files not generating?
  13. It sounds like a supply issue with getting the panels through customs from NZ to Aussie Land. The change in K factor causes the unfolded pattern to change do to the difference in expansion/ contraction of material upon bending. So they were designed for the shop he is used to using to break his plates and now he has to outsource to avoid customs from the Flu. So long as the material costs are not going up on that side of the pond and labor is roughly the same you should be fine. Unfortunately I do not have a great suggestion for you. I personally would probably build the new ones on top of the old ones with an updated k-factor and bend radius. Not a good answer though, I hope someone can help you out! -Spencer
  14. It depends on the application, but generally I think doing a 2D cross-section edit with smart dimension constraints or setting locked dimensions to an intellishape of your choice would work for you. -Spencer 2021-05-25 09-24-14.mp4
  15. There are several threads on this already, but I will give you my opinion summary. There are two because one is essentially an AutoCAD clone (CAXA) and the other, ICD, is more of a internal drawing application that IC has been adding to and developing over the years. I use ICD because I find it easier due to the fact that it ties more directly and seamlessly to the 3D environment and properties (though with practice i'm sure it would be just as easy). Where CAXA excels and ICD lacks is functionality. There are many many situations where you must get very creative to make ICD do what you want and CAXA is much more versatile and forgiving. CAXA just makes me feel more disconnected to my machine designs for whatever reason, but once again......OPINION. -Spencer
  16. I cant say I have ever seen this happen before. If I were a betting man I would say the "recreate display" will probably fix it, but I am not sure why that would happen in the first place. -Spencer
  17. You absolutely can, two videos attached: - Spencer 2021-05-20 09-53-33.mp4 2021-05-20 09-52-21.mp4
  18. Besides making an assembly (which essentially acts as one part and can be set to "prevent selection below..."), the Boolean operation is the easiest (so far as it is not sheet metal because this will not work) as Cary suggested. It really just depends what you are trying to do specifically because as Cary mentioned, there are a ton of ways. I attached a video as reference, but I would never build a part this way...it just seemed like a good example where a 2D sketch was made and then extruded. 3D shapes 2D cross section edits are much faster in my opinion. Hope this helps. -Spencer 2021-05-20 09-37-51.mp4
  19. Here you go, -Spencer 2021-05-20 09-09-54.mp4
  20. Hopefully this will get you off on the right foot. I don't personally use the bulk creation, but the video shows you how to alter the templates to fit your needs. - Spencer 2021-05-19 09-14-32.mp4
  21. I just want to follow that up by saying that this is a bad practice and I would not recommend it unless you scrub the page size in your template. Also, no one will be able to print out your work without it being an inaccurate scale title. The reason there are page size standards is to maintain the scale to view to page size relationship and let the viewer know that if the printed page size does not match the title block page size dimensions it is not to scale and must be adjusted. A dynamic border in model space is fine so long as it is used for layout purposes and not a drawing package. You may have a unique application for wanting it that way though.
  22. Anytime you export from ICD to CAXA there are setting that will allow the model space scale to be 1:1 (like usual) and the template border will scale to fit. -Spencer
  23. I use CAXA for some interactions that mostly involve branching between AutoCAD and and IC, but from what I can tell it is basically an AutoCAD emulator. You should be able to export/ import whatever you want in there and create a block from it. From there you could scale it up or down or whatever you want to do. -Spencer 2021-05-18 10-05-08.mp4
  24. See Video. -Spencer 2021-05-18 09-06-46.mp4
  25. Any update on this one? We may be doing a large amount of exports soon, Thanks. - Spencer
