Anatomical Cad Models?

Recommended Posts

I did a quick search for "3d models" anatomy. For the really high-end models, it looks like you might have to pay.

This site has some incredible stuff, but it looks like it ranges in price from about $700 to several thousand dollars - http://www.3dscience.com/

This site has some less expensive models at a much lower level of detail - http://www.turbosquid.com

This has 3ds anatomy models - some are free - http://www.the3dstudio.com

Another purchase site - http://www.humanbody3d.com/

Definitely. But one thing more should be considered: all anatomical models that I ever heard about are polygonal 3d objects, which could probably loaded in IC (*.3ds), but they are almost unusable there. In most cases they are made for rendering purposes using appropriate rendering software (which all use polygonal formats). I've never seen any 'parametric' anatomy models (IGES, STEP, SAT etc.)… but this must not necessarily mean they don't exist ;-)

Thanks Mike,

Those are the ones I uncovered as well. I have to agree with Bernd, they are all polygonal becasue of the organic nature of the "geometry". Only polygonal modelers ( and now N-sided) can achieve the level of detail of these organic shapes.

Bernd is also right when I import in IC theres not much I can do with them except for render. However if IC would allow to adjust the surface facet smoothness when coverting to a solid, this would provide much more useability. I could even then recreate the part picking points of the imported file to create a native IC model.

thanks all for the help

Well, adjusting smoothness requires a) a model to be parametric geometry or B) IC being a subdivision modeler (polygonal). Since both requirements aren't fulfilled, I'd suggest to add surface re-engineering (from scanned point clouds and polys) to the next version of IC :-)

Rhino has it as a plugin, FormZ has it as a plugin, others have it… IC should have it as a standard tool, right?

;-)

Bernd,

Just in case your not aware,  V9 will accept point cloud data through the 3D Curve tool.

Thanks, Tom,

I know… but this is only the first step of the way. I'm dreaming about something like this:

http://www.geomagic.com/en/products/studio/

Similar technologies could be made available via plugin… if not integrated into the main application (like e.g. in VX, although I really don't like this application)

Bernd

P.S. Does anybody else have problems with e-mail notifications? I -do- have them enabled, but I never receive any e-mail.

I do not know how detailed you want but what I use just to show figure for referance by a machine is the attached file called Dude 1.ics

his arms and legs can be mived. You need to select the parts and position your ttri-ball where the pivit is.

Thanks Cary,

I am creating anatomical "models" that sit on a doctors desk and he can pull apart and dicuss with patients. So the models have to be highly detailed and fairly accurate.

Currently I'm working on a hip (pelvis) desktop viaual aid.

what I do from the intial concept is dowenload 3DS files and render. If the client selects the concept then I have to make a more detailed model then I convert to solid and they try my best to recreate using specific points from the converted 3ds file. It's not optimal but all i got .

Thats why if I could convert to a higher facet resolution it would help tremendously

thanks for the help

Tom
