  1. I believe you can use the mechanism mode found in the tools tab, but there are some limitations.
  2. I also have a laptop I could use with a 3070 in it, but I typically wont. The issue with using a laptop in software like IC for me is that I NEED a numpad and if you need a numpad the laptop has to be fairly large in order to fit it on the keyboard so at that point I circle back to a desktop again anyways. The idea seems good until I try to actually do it and them i'm like....where is my desk haha.
  3. Are you saying you use the CPU for graphics? Most good/ recent AMD cards don't even have onboard graphics anymore so you have no choice but to buy a GPU. They figured they would save consumers money by assuming if you are buying a high performance CPU you are almost certainly buying a GPU also (This is why AMD CPU price to performance is so good). I would highly recommend a GPU if this is the case, even most of the cheapest GPU's will out perform a nice CPU's integrated graphics. A CPU is more like having one great mind as opposed to thousands of pretty smart minds. The task of graphical production needs those massive amounts of cores to operate smoothly and effectively. A good example of this is my GPU has 6144 cores and my CPU has 12 (24 threads). Both are very high performance, but the CPU is ideal for computational things for the most part and the GPU is great at rendering graphics in real time or otherwise (animation rendering etc). It really does make a night and day difference and would be the best cost to performance boost you could make.
  4. I have found that even the updater can create read only warning etc. after you close out of something. This has happen on multiple systems here close to 100 times, but we know how to get around it so no biggie.
  5. This has been a feature in every version since at least 2017 (this is the first version I started on). It should work exactly as seen in the video on IC2022. Here is a video of me doing it in IC 2022, hope this helps. 2023-07-20 09-04-08.mp4
  6. I do this within ICD (IC drawing environment). It sees the 3D sketch lines as a part so you can convert the entire line type of that "Part" to create the desired dotted, hashed, or whatever other type of lines you want. Right click the view. edit line styles and curves, select, change line type. Sorry the video has several mis-clicks, It's early here and I just got moving for the day. 2023-07-18 09-48-31.mp4
  7. Hole block cross-sectional edit would be my go to.
  8. If you setup the scene with the units you want and then save that and set it to your default template, you will be good to go. -Spencer
  9. Are you looking to do something like this? Like Cary said, if you simply want to make a solid into a mesh, just export to one of those file types. 2023-06-27 14-35-35.mp4
  10. It is also worth mentioning that 3D printing softwares like Lychee can fix holes that are sometimes created in models. As you can see this cylinder became a surface in that last video because there were numerous issues when solidified. Lychee will patch it and then you can reexport of OBJ and import back into IC and re-solidify and boom, solid object again. It is not the intended use of the software, but it is super helpful. 2023-06-23 13-41-21.mp4
  11. Yeah, so those cylinders above were all the same cylinders before I messed with them in blender and reimported them. It is an extremely simple example of course, but it is doable with blender. See video: NOTE: I understand that Blender is not easy to work with unless you have hundreds or thousands of hours of experience with it, so there may be an easier way using Meshmixer or something. Meshmixer is a free Autodesk (makers of AutoCAD) product that I have used a couple times. -Spencer 2023-06-23 13-27-57.mp4
  12. Wait, isn't that what you were asking to do? Divide into more facets? I guess I am confused as to what you are asking exactly.
  13. Export to blender, use the subdivide modifier, reimport, convert to solid? Can you post an example BREP on here and I will give it a shot?
  14. Yeah, you should check out what geometry nodes can do in blender. It is pretty amazing. You can procedurally generate thousands of different variations of things (ships, buildings, etc.) in minutes once everything is setup. Granted, the setup is donte's inferno level stuff.
  15. Here you go, I would also recommend making it a wheel. -Spencer 2023-06-21 09-09-24.mp4
  16. Like Kevin said, just create a BOM and drag it off the sheet, though there will be no reference as to what the items bubbles actually mean of course. We do this with certain detail views and the BOM will be a duplicate with matching numbers to the one on the sheet. It allows us to still accurately bubble anything we want, even alternate configurations. -Spencer
  17. Export to Blender. Use shrinkwrap. Export back to IC. Here is a quick video example of one way to do it using text, but anything can apply here. I use the two softwares together often, especially with 3D printing applications mixing a little cura and other stuff in there. -Spencer Edit: I got it pretty close, but it takes some mesh editing etc. so maybe a bit to take on with a software as user unfriendly as blender unless you are willing to learn quite a bit. 2023-06-12 14-37-50.mp4
  18. I am not sure why this isn't working, but we use an image and have for years. I may suggest trying several different/ common file extensions for your image. If you are not well versed in changing image formats easily, something like convertio can be used to do it for you.
  19. Oh yeah, I never export to that format, only import so maybe that's why it's not been an issue for me personally so far.
  20. Wait, what? I had asked them directly in person and they did fix it. I have used it many times over the years. -Spencer
  21. If I recall correctly, the .IFC file was also not able to be imported about three years ago and the enhancement request went through. So there is hope for them to find a way or they might already have one. -Spencer
  22. Indirectly I have. We work with a company that uses TEKLA software, which I believe uses this file format for each part. We have them export into .IFC files and import those into IC though. I have never dealt with the native file format directly. I know that isn't helpful, but you may be able to suggest a .IFC export that you can then import. It is my understanding that the .IFC file format is fairly standard and widespread in certain disciplines (architecture/ Civil maybe). Hopefully this helps in someway. -Spencer
