Conical Sheet Metal Options for Radius & Angle Input

IronCAD's conical sheet metal feature gives users a quick method to create a conical shape by simply dragging and dropping it into the 3D Environment and inputting the top/bottom radius and the height. This works well for most design applications for conical sheet metal. However, there are times you will need to input a radius, height, and angle which will drive the other radius value.  In order to do this,  a mathematical conversion is done to calculate the radius. For example: Below is an

IronCAD Students: The Importance of Learning CAD in the Classroom

Exceptional writers have a strong inner monologue. Exceptional artists have an excellent eye for detail. Exceptional marketers know how to capture the imagination, but what’s the formula for an exceptional engineer?  It often goes without saying, but modern engineering relies on Computer-aided design software or CAD software for almost every aspect of product design. CAD is important for engineers, as this is where ideas turn into reality in the form of blueprints and simulations. Possessin

Attachment Points

Attachment Points are used to join parts at specific locations when dropped out of catalogs. These points can also include constraints that limit the degrees of freedom when moving those parts. This article covers a few topics; First, how to create, position, and name Attachment Points. Then, we explore the constraints that you can use to fine-tune the motion in mechanism mode.   Creating Attachment Points is simple and can be done in a couple of ways. The first way is to use our

Intelligent Parametric Push & Pull Design

Hi All, We wanted to follow-up from our previous blog on Dynamic Parametric CAD Design (https://www.ironcad.com/blog/dynamic-parametric-cad-design/) by showing you how to extend this capability with Intelligence. In the video below, we will build a parametric model from scratch and show how easy it is to add intelligence so that you can drop other components onto a parametric model and have them automatically position, orient, and size to fit the parametric model's dimensions. Using Attachm

3 Things to Consider Before Choosing a CAD System

Options are great things, but too many options and you’re likely to end up wasting more time deciding which CAD system is right for you rather than manufacturing the stuff that gets invoices paid. With this current abundance in the market, how do you determine which is the best CAD software for improving your design and engineering efficiencies so that your company will be more innovative throughout the product lifecycle? Using mainly traditional CAD methodology, most design software simply

6 Advantages of 3D Printing vs Injection Molding

3D printing and injection molding have a lot in common. Both of these manufacturing processes are meant to make a designer’s vision a reality as painlessly as possible. Both 3D printing and injection molding are great at producing prototypes or replacement parts, among many things. Manufacturing parts have traditionally been performed with injection molding. That process entails injecting heated material into a metal mold and once cooled the now solid object is ejected as a solid part. Howe

CAD Software for Metal Fabrication That Helps You Win at the Bid Stage & Expedite Production

CAD software for metal fabrication needs to be able to facilitate the production process, but how many 3D CAD platforms also help speed up the sales process, which some might consider even more important? More often than not, even the most skilled CAD user on a traditional CAD platform can’t move fast enough for salespeople or customers who often present “I needed this yesterday” scenarios.   Mechanical contractor Weems M&E in Dalton, Georgia, has found the CAD software solution fo
