cborer
Hi In near future I would like to buy a new computer. My supporter asks me how IC handles dual or soon quatro core systems? Thanks Carlo
IronKevin
IronCAD can use multiple cores during the new "Visual Load" and while Rendering. Also, if you are running multiple programs at once you will see much better performance using a dual or quad core system.
cborer
Sounds great! Many Thanks! Here some boolean functions are very slow. Especially with 2 rail sweep surfaces. Do you think this will be faster? PS I normally use iTunes, Outlook, sometimes Rhino at the same time Carlo Edited October 3, 2007 by cborer
Jonas@Solidmakarna
I've made some tests in IronCAD 10 beta 1 with a 1500+ part assembly that has been quite tough and hard to deal with in IronCAD 9 PU1 HF1. We had 3 new HP computers that we borrowed at the time for testing. HP 6400 Xeon (4 x 3.00 GHz) 2 GB RAM, Quadro FX1500 /3GB boot switch. HP 4400 Core2Duo (2 x 2.40 GHz) 2 GB RAM, Quadro FX1500 /3GB boot switch. HP 9440 CentrinoDuo (2 x 2.16 GHz) 2 GB RAM, Quadro FX1500M /3GB boot switch. Here are some numbers. Creating 4 new Draft Mode views in a Blank Drawing: 6400: 65s 4400: 80s 9440: 115s Creating Section view from Front view: 6400: 30s 4400: 37s 9440: 37s Saving that drawing: 6400: 6s 4400: 8s 9440: 22s Updating that drawing: 6400: 110s 4400: 125s 9440: 180s
IronKevin
The general modeling commands (boolean included) are not multi-threaded. However, we have put the latest modeling kernel versions in 10.0 and I'm sure ACIS and Parasolid have made some level of performance improvements. cborer
Thank you both! Jonas! these are real detailed informations! Great to have you on bord! Thanks So far as I do not understand to much about that: My supporter said its important that IC (or Photoshop) uses the core that is not used by the other running applications. Is there a auto running/search in IC? .. or do we have to say that? Kevin as I understand your answers I would say Yes!? IC searches for free place/core!? Or is it working on both core? Thanks Carlo
IronKevin
IronCAD would operate on a single core except during Visual Load and Rendering.
cborer
OK thanks Kevin But does it find out which one is free or does it work on the one all the other applications are running on?
Cary OConnor
In the task manager, you can specify which processor an application will run on. Right-click on the process and select set affinity. Cary
