I have manually copied the holes in the picture but for my real model I have about 50 to do. Marcus Bertilsson Posted January 30, 2006 Share Posted January 30, 2006 Try this: -Select the hole -turn on triball -move the triball to the center of the rotation ( in this case the center of the tube) -lock axis for the rotation ( in this case along the axis of the tube) -now hold down the right mouse button and make a rotation. -when you relief the button you select "copy" or "link". -in the dialog you now can set number, "angle" and "step up". The step up is the distans the hole shall be lifted between each copy. This will not be a real editable pattern, only copies or links. I have just realised that my problem is little bit trickier than the item posted above, my real model is very subtly curved. I need my holes to radiate out from the centre of a sphere essentially, I need helical holes in the manner above but the step up command, rather than be a linear translation, becomes an angular step. It essentiall a spherical pattern that I 'm after except that I don't want a grid of holes just a line. Am I making myself clear? cborer Posted January 30, 2006 Share Posted January 30, 2006 David, this looks as if the Triball was not in the middle of the sphere. Posit the Triball in the middle first, (Space Bar), then follow as described. At the end reposit every holes individual (axis to center point of sphere). Keep care that the anchor of the first hole is on the surface of the sphere. This could be a nice sample for my suggestion of the magnetic 3d line And the option to position along 3d line. Carlo, my triball did start life in the centre of the sphere but the step up comand just moves each intellishape in a linear fashion, i.e its not rotaional , ie. copying it around the sphere centre in the second direction. I was suggesting the "copy along 3d curve" some years ago too. (it must be hard to do) ...but the angle option should be easy to do. How about that? See picture!
