Importing - STP - How to Map Custom Properties?

Recommended Posts

Attached is an image of an IRONCAD file in which I have added three Custom Properties (MaterialDescription, Revision, RevisionDate). Also attached is an image of this file after it has been exported as a STP 214 file and imported back into IRONCAD again.

1. The original Custom Properties are ignored and replaced with others (Definition, Nomenclature, Revision, Source). How can we stop exported STP files from including unwanted Custom Properties, and is there a way to filter what is imported? We currently manually remove these from imported parts and assemblies.

2. How to map the values of the original Custom Properties (Part Number, Description, Revision) to the same Custom Properties in the exported STP file? The exporting process seems to ignore the original Custom Properties all together.

Are there any STP experts able to answer these importing and exporting questions?

Hi Malcolm,

It looks like IronCAD does not support importing & exporting any Custom properties with step file. Mapping & remapping STEP file's properties requires data in the DATA section of the .stp file. The attached image shows what you see in the Property window. In this order, Part Name, Part Number, Description. You can edit this texts with Notepad.

I tried deleting and adding some Custom Properties and then exporting and testing them, but nothing was added to the DATA Section.

These files are physically the same things, just with different file names.

So, in order for IronCAD to save and load Custom Properties into a Step file, it seems that we need the mapping and remapping tool.
