RCERVA
Hi. Hope you all well. I need to transform a helix to flat metal part to send to cnc laser to cut strips to be welded together. But can't seem to be done. Can someone please assist to give me some idea of how I can do this. Thanks Josef mixer.ics
Cary OConnor
If it is a uniform radius helix, you only need one revolution as it will overlap if you try to use the Solid/Surface Flat Pattern from Faces. If it was a variable radius, you could select that flat face and use that command and get something like below. In either case, it will not generate bendlines as it is not really a developable surface in terms of sheet metal (as it is really a deformation). Another way to build this is to use the sheet metal sketch bend (again you only need one revolution if it is uniform radius) since our loft bend will not make use of 3D Curve Sketches at the moment. It would be a bit tricky to do it however.
