Mike Hatch
Just a thought, is there an "update part from catalog". We tend to run the catalogs as the "golden" source of parts. So as parts occasionally change over time, revisions, new data etc, is there a way to update (all) the parts in a design with an up-to-date version from the catalog without having to go through them all individually ?. Going back the other way (saving to the catalog) is relatively painless It a methodology used quite a lot in PCB design, updating a part, to and from, the design to the library. IronKevin
If you drop into a catalog a part that is externally linked you will have the option to maintain that link then any parts you drop out of the catalog that are linked will remain linked and if you edit the catalog item all dropped instances of that part will be updated. SSIMMONS
I believe you can simply enter them into the catalog as linked assemblies (correct me if I am wrong on this or if this is not what you meant). This is a scary workflow when you have people poking around in there that shouldn't be or have little understanding of what is what or more importantly what NOT to do. The only possible issue with this is that if multiple people try to use the same externally linked catalog it may become a read-write permission nightmare. I think we drifted away from that concept because the sharing of catalogs. Now we use them very differently and store larger assemblies in a separate 3D drive as a scene that only I and one other person use. Luckily most of the people here so rarely open IC that they have out of date versions and cannot open the files anyway so no harm no foul...unless files are moved and the links all get broken as a result, which has happened. - Spencer
