Malcolm Crowe
My understanding is that IRONCAD uses SPACIAL 3D INTEROP translation tools. INTEROP offers both Read and Write capability of the ACIS Assembly format (.asat). The .asat file format would be a lot more useful to us than .sat, as it conveys the assembly structure as well. Is there any reason why the .asat file format can't be added to IRONCAD? Malcolm
Cary OConnor
It has not been requested before to be honest. We can look into the support for a future version. Are there other users that would like to have this capability as well (just commnent in the post). Cary
Malcolm Crowe
We prefer to exchange data as a kernel format (either ACIS or PARASOLID depending on the kernel of the other software). But the problem with standard ACIS (.sat) is that the original assembly structure isn't maintained. Assemblies and sub-assemblies are lost. Only parts transmit. This is a real nuisance for us, and wasn't something that we realized as a problem when we first started exchanging data using .sat in the early days. jolizon590016
+1 I think ICĀ at this stage can stand on its own and having this is a true collaborative asset. regards
Malcolm Crowe
It has been over a year, so I thought I'd raise this request again regarding adding the ability to import and export the ACIS Assembly (*.asat) file format. Malcolm Crowe
Another year, another reminder. Is there any reason why the .asat file format can't be added for importing and exporting? Malcolm
IronKevin
No promises, but we are going to attempt to support this with the 2023 release.

Cary OConnor
Hi Malcolm, Do you have sample files that we can use for testing as well?
