  1. Thanks for all the help. I will try sending it to support. I tried opening it on another machine with version 9 on it, but the program just shuts down with no messages or anything. David J
  2. Hi all, Can anyone help advise how to recover a crashed drawing. I have a drawing, 33 pages, 11mb & it won't open in IronCAD. It failed while performing a save on the last drawing. When trying to reopen it, I just get error messages which when click OK/cancel just reappear. I need to reboot to start IronCAD again. I have another drawing, 22 pages, 20mb, no problems. In explorer I can right click the crashed drawing file & export to pdf to use the existing contents for printing. Unfortunately, I need to update a number of the sheets & with it crashing I can't do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. IronCAD 8 PU2. Regards, David
  3. Thanks Carey, The help file isn't real clear to me that's all. I will try to work out the procedure for that numbering fault. Davo
  4. I have just upgraded to update 2 - never did update 1. 1/ In line type settings, the default settings are too numerous for our purposes. I want to reduce the number shown, & set the ones I want with my properties. Every time I try to delete a line type, I get a message it is in use. No views have been generated, & no scene files are open. How do I get to delete & modify the list??? 2/ If I generate a view, then highlight it & right click to select properties, style type is listed as Default Style. If I change a line type property, style type is now listed as Default Style*. What is the go with the *? 3/ Sometimes when editing line types, for some reason I get a 2nd line type name occuring with a number suffix. Ex: Use a line type called Standard & modify some of its properties, I then have Standard & Standard(1). Why is this? Happens a lot with V8.0. 4/ Is there a way to print a list of hot key settings? 5/ Can someone explain more clearly the settings for attched file? Regards, Davo
  5. Thanks for your reply. It's odd - I kept working & any existing files opened & worked with OK. This file, no go. Shut down Ironcad, didn't reboot computer or anything, opened it again - all OK. Regards, Davo
  6. I need to model a bund with a 1° slope on the floor. I created the bund, then created a 1° cone. Made the cone a negative, then subtracted it from the bund floor. Now, I can't smart dimension to the bund whether on the bund only, or, from another part to the bund. I can dimension other parts on themselves, or to other parts. When trying to dimension, faces etc. highlight, & a dimension is often started, but from what appears to be the scene centre point. Using V8.0. File attached for checking. 7. I know I have queried this before, but I can't remember the final outcome. (Have tried searching). On a number of occasions we have trouble deleting Ironcad files. We get "file in use" error etc. It appears to occur only with .icd files. Error attached. Any advice appreciated. Davo
  8. Steel pipe & fiittings, (bends, elbows, reducers etc.) Davo
  9. I have searched the forum for how to perform lofts from square to round profile. I still can't remove the twist which occurs & 'corrupts" the finished loft. Can anyone explain a bit more clearly how this is achieved? Thanks, Davo
  10. Thanks guys. That solves the problem. Any advice on when it is recommended to use a certain kernal? (Apart from when something fails). Thanks, Davo
  11. I have a scene where extruded parts are not able to be modified via handles. This includes standard catalog items like blocks etc. If a block is dragged into the scene, you can adjust it via handles when first dropped. Once deselected & reselected, you adjust the intellishape handles, the intellishape box changes, but the part doesn't. New scenes appear OK. I have rebooted computer with no change. Ferfer to attached file, parts 131 & 132. Regards, Davo 498_WilliCrane_Warehouse_1.ics
  12. Can someone explain why when 2D sketching for extrude etc., if you select "hide edited part" then use project 3D, the part shows. This is frustrating for me as I normally need to reference other parts & the edited part blocks them. I know if doing "extrude - stand alone", you need to have parts showing, but why on "edit cross section" & "add material"? David
  13. I would go for 60-70% customer driven. (I still feel a number of basic items need refining/including.) Also, with new innovation, would'nt that be best determined by Ironcad saying "we plan to do this..., what do our clients think?" Davo
  14. We often get error messages to the efect advising us to perform a Save As on the working file. If we do this we find we can't delete either the original file, or the new one. This also occurs if a file is sent by email, some changes or notes made & returned via email. Try to replace the existing file & can't do. Error message to do with "file in use". Any ideas. Davo
  15. I agree totally Tom. I often wish to swap between the 2 formats depending on what I am trying to do. I would also like an option to always have both handles available. (When you extrude etc., you then need to go into properties & tick the relevant size boxes to get choice of both handles.) Davo
  16. I'm currently looking at a new computer system. Typical Ironcad files are 5-15MB. No surfacing used in files, but linked & multiple assemblies within files are common. Don't want to go over the top with specs., but would like to know what people recommend for graphics, hard drive, ram & processor etc. (With graphics cards, what ones to avoid also.) Regards, Davo
  17. -Angular SmartDimension Not Transferring to Drawing: Angular SmartDimensions failing to transfer to the drawing on ACIS models has been resolved. I don't use ACIS & have a problem with copying angular smart dimensions to Triball etc. Ex: I might measure 45° between faces on blocks. I copy this value. Then I use Triball to rotate this value, but when I paste value in, it comes up as 785.3981633974615. Will this be solved in the above? (This is causing major problems for us & is deemed urgent.) Davo
  18. Most definately required. Ensure little tips & tricks are noted as well. David
  19. Please refer to the attached file. Refer to the 'rear' column, & you will see a gap between the top of column & the roof beam. What method(s) does everyone use to: a/ move the bolting plate to mate with roof beam b/ extend the column to mate flush with the plate. Also, the overhang at the front is to have its' length dimensioned from the 'intersection' of the front face of the column & the roof beam. Again, I use a 2D sketch as I don't know of any way to refernce to the 'intersection' in the model. All replies greatly appreciated as I tend to sketch the profiles, trim & determine lengths to move/extend. e how.zip
  20. Do people also realise that if you hold down the CTRL key whilst doing this, it creates a copy.
  21. We do a lot of site plans & wish to do very basic animations to show clients how their plant would look as they walk around. I can use the Animation catalog tools no problem, but when I want to use the camera animation I have trouble. Can anyone advise of a simple way to perform walk throughs? Regards, David J
  22. Thank you all for your replies. Very much appreciated. Will be waiting to hear your final results Chris, as there has been some pondering on this subject from others here.
  23. I have a Pentium 4, 1.6GHz, 1GB Ram, 60GB 7400 HDD & a Jaton NVIDIA Geforce 2 MX/mx400 with 64MB RAM. I wish to optimise the redraw rate & overall, the advice was to change processor, increase RAM, (at the time only 512MB), & get another card. Whilst I have increased the RAM, I can't justify the expense of a new processor & motherboard & RAM & video card. (Next year yes). My system will only run 4X AGP. Has anyone out there have a similar system, & if so could you please advise whether I can expect much improvement by changing the video card. As a reference to Ironcad performance, if I drag a standard block in from the catalog, use the Triball to copy it 30 times at a distance of 100mm, it takes 13-14 seconds to perform this. Any advice greatly appreciated. Regards, David J I have posted this notice previously on the forum & have appreciated all the replies.
  24. Latest release has been good, but really only appears to be bug fixes mostly. (Very appreciated fixes mind you). Without knowing what is planned for the next release, I was wondering if it would be worthwhile having a poll where everyone lists 10 -15 enhancements they would like. These could be new features, &/or, enhancement of existing ones. I am assuming the 'powers that be' at Ironcad, have a number of things they would like to do, but obviously can't do all at once. The results of this poll would then indicate preferred priority of users. This poll would have to be for a fixed period, say 2-4 weeks. Whilst I also appreciate that lots of new features may draw more users in, I feel the same as many others, that refining what we have at present is extremely important also. (These things will also draw more users. Ex: multiple parts in Drawings.) Also, could Ironcad publish the direction & plans they have? Regards, David Johannesen
  25. I have spoken to some people about the following attached setting options - noone could give a clear answer. We are looking at settings to make scene operation faster & file sizes smaller. If I use facet parts, cones when converted to solid are effectively 'panelled' & a number of these 'panels' are not visible - ie: poor image. I also noticed that if a scene is exported as a parasolid file, whilst the resulting file size is larger than its' .ics file, when zipped, it reduces to about 1/2 its' size. (.ics files virtrually don't compress). Regards, David J
