trouble adding dimensions

Well, I've been here before but don't ever remember a solution that worked.

 

Here's a drawing I started (zip attached). Every time I add a dimension I lose all of the other dimensions and have to reset all of them. It's not very fun and kills a lot of time.

 

Any suggestions?

I too have had problems with this type dimensioning system.

You go back and add a dimension and they all go hay wire.

You can turn off the automatic stagger to avoid the issue. Go to the styles and layers and under the dimensions, click on the stagger tab. At the bottom, you will see an option to turn off the automatic stagger.

 

So have it enabled when you first create the ordinate. Then turn it off when you want to insert date into the group later.

Another possible option is on the Dimension style, set the Text Format "Distance of text from line/leader" to a smaller value (Probably should create a new style first). This controls the spacing in the stagger. So when you insert, the jump may not be as big of a shift if there is room for the new inserted item.

I can't find dimensions in styles and layers or the stagger tab. Are you talking XG?

They should be there in V11 as well. Click on the Styles&Layers button in the drawing environment from the toolbars. In the catagory list, you should see Dimensions. Select that and at the bottom Left, select the style and hit modify. In the resulting dialog, click on the Stagger Tab and you should see the option at the bottom of the page.

Finally getting back to this... but turning off the auto-stagger and controlling the spacing was a big help. Now if I can just get remember where they are next time
