B. Ludin
Rick, where did you get the update from? Or are you just raving at the prospect of things to come? Cheers, Beat

B. Ludin
Chris - I've seen the press release. To me it sounds like it'll still take a couple of months until Granite will be included in IC (any comments about the timeline?), but Rick sounds as if he's got the the software update already... Rick Dorrington
I'd like to say we have it, but not yet. I was just expressing my approval of IronCads efforts to lead the way in interoperability. We can wait for a couple of months. Our Cam software is also supporting Granite natively so our world seems to be coming together - rather nice when you have customers using Pro/E. Sometimes things just seem to go your way. Ride it while you can.
dhovatter
I know this may sound very stupid but What is Granite?? I live in a cave and work my ass of and don't have the time to keep up with every thing that is new. Anyone want to help this old man?? Chris Lohman
gran·ite n. A common, coarse-grained, light-colored, hard igneous rock consisting chiefly of quartz, orthoclase or microcline, and mica, used in monuments and for building. http://www.ptc.com/products/granite/index.htm PTC's Granite One interoperability kernel provides a new technique to share design data between applications. Applications built on Granite can read CAD files created in any authoring tool built on Granite including PTC's Pro/ENGINEER and Pro/DESKTOP. Derived from the solid modeling and interoperability technology made famous by Pro/ENGINEER, Granite allows for data-rich, associative interoperability. Rick Dorrington
Please, stop it. I'm drooling all over my keyboard. If it gets any better the wood man might show up.
dsulli
That's great news! If you are to export a part/assy to someone having Granite one or Pro-E software, what would the file extention be (still .ics)? Is there a free viewer for that file type? Guest tcooksey
Would models brought in from Pro E or taken into Pro E be editable or would they solid parts like imported Acis and Parasolid files?
Chris Lohman
It will import Granite (.g), Neutral (.neu), Part (.prt both encrypted and non), Assembly (.asm) Versions 2000i and newer. It will function as a geometric translator only just as the parasolid and acis kernels. Now I'm told that the above is a "Phase1" implementation. I have yet to be told if there is a phase2 and what additional it might offer. One can only assume it would have to expand into non geometry areas. Guest tcooksey
Chris, Thanks for the update. This is very exciting news! I often encounter resistance with certain clients because I am not using Pro E. I feel this will definitely give IC users a big leg up in dealing with this type of situation. Keep up the good work! gbird
I agree with the above sentiments. It could mean a lot more work for me. Keep up the good work IC Geoffrey
