Chris Lohman
Install Shield 1608:Unable to create install driver instance [ok] We are away of a problem occuring on a very limited amount of systems where IronCAD 5.0 is failing to install. The error that occurs is above. There currently is no fix for this problem. This is our highest priority item right now and we are working with Installshied to resolve this issue. This is an installshield bug. As far as we know so far the problem only occurs on Windows 2000. It also appears to be a problem only on systems that have many applications and updates installed. This problem does not occur if you reinstall Windows2000, immediately install IronCAD, then proceed with Windows service packs, updates, and other applications. =If you are experiencing the problem, please run through the following steps= The following instructions assume that your CDROM is the D: drive, the C: drive has a write-able file-system, and that you are logged in to Windows 2000 with an account that is a member of the Administrators group. Please adjust the drive letters in the steps below if this does not match your machine configuration. 1. Uninstall any previous version of IronCAD and reboot if necessary. 2. Extract the ISScript.msi from this file. 3. Run isscript.msi by double clicking on the file in Windows Explorer. If ISScript is not already installed, then just complete this installation. If ISScript gives you the option to Modify, Repair or Remove, select Remove to completely remove ISScript, then re-run ISScript.msi to re-install. 4. Put InnovationSuite 5.0 CD into CDROM drive. (InnovationSuite Installation Tool starts) 5. Click exit on the bottom of InnovationSuite Installation Tool. (InnovationSuite Installation Tool exits) 6. Using the run command from the start menu enter the command: d:\IroncadInovate\setup.exe -Verbose"c:\setup.txt" (InnovationSuite Setup program should start and should fail with a 1608 error.) 7. Run through the installation, failing or otherwise. Please let me know here the results. If it failes, please email the c:\setup.txt file to me at techsupport@ironcad.com (attn: Chris) ISScript.zip
Chris Lohman
Here's another thing from installshield to try: Try to manually launch IDriver.exe, which is located in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\7\Intel 32 This should start an instance of IDriver and leave it in memory. While the process is in memory try to launch the install again to see if you receive the error message. Please let me know the results. Thank you.
