cborer
I am on the way to buy a new HP 4200,3.4 GHz workstation: there are to graphics cards in dicussion: ATI Fire GL V3100, 128MB or NVIDIA Quadro FX1300, 128 MB which is the better one? is it a big step from my old: NVIDIA Quadro Ti-4200 PP Ultra/750-8X-XP 256 MB sounds all like chineese to me! Is there a Hitparade for Graphics Cards with IronCad?
kfranssen
If I compare the datasheets from Nvidia ATI then the ATI memory interface is "only" 128bit, while NVidia is 256bit ATI bandwidth is only 6,4GB/sec and NVidia is 17.6GB/sec The 3Dperformance is somewhat confusing. ATI speaks of vertices and pixels per sec. while NVidia talks about triangles and texels per second. There is a difference. My guess is that NVidia's PCIexpress is faster than ATI's PCIexpress card. But only a benchmark will tell. This might help a little more: http://www20.graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...gl-pcie-10.html In particular the benchmarks are usefull: http://www20.graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...gl-pcie-14.html

Per-Arne Almeflo
Ill try! Many Thanks Carlo 8640[/snapback] From what conclusions I can draw from the answers by mr Velez and mr Lohman, to similar questions, buy the one that gives you the most money left to fully load the RAM slots. Mike Twining
Yeah, what Per-Arne said. And then, if you want to plan for the future, buy an Nvidia card.... they have better Linux support ( hint hint developers ) MikeT
