Loft is not what suspected

Hi Carlo,

If you only have profiles, it usually will go profile to profile. You need to use the Centerline to get more what you need.

To do that, select the profile locator curve, right-click on it and select Extract 3D Curve. Edit the Loft Feature and select the 3D curve for the centerline. Adjust the Level for how close it follows.

Even when I did that, you may need another profile to handle the kink at the large profile end or adjust the curve slightly. To edit the Centerline after it is used, right-click on the loft and select Edit centerline (it is not using the 3D curve in the tree anymore). So you will need to play with this a bit to get the transition you want. You can also adjust the start and end conditions to alter the shape.

Dear Cary

Thank you.

I had no much luck in this.

Obviously I didn't get it.

Can you please post a movie?

I tried with a 3d curve as well but it does not work....

Also the edit match point does not work here......

To me it looks like loft tool needs a little revision. excl.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

Partially I am missing here the intuitive workflow that honors Iron Cad.

So I started again by zero

I was able to do it with a 3d curve and 3 Cylinders.

I do not know why the others did not work...

I was able to move the cross sections later with the Triball.

That is quite nice.

You can also adjust the start and ends of the loft (in the Feature Browser), to get a perpendicular tangency to the start and end. Also, the Level of Follow will adjust the shape.

The Guide curves are used when you have points in the profile and want to adjust the shape. For Example: Rectangle profiles, you could adjust the path on each corner between the profiles.

Match points are used more often in the case mentioned above where you can control twisting.
