tlehnhaeuser
I have to model a LIME and need to make a 3D print. So I need to "model" the lime skin texture to get the "bumps. Does anyone know an easy way to do this? I don;t have the time to create each little "hole" bump on the entire lime. Any feedback is welcomed. Thanks Tom
Robert Andersson
-Apply the texture and export a WRL file and print the lime on a full color 3d printer like a ProJet 660. -maybe you can use this software to convert a image to a 3D surface with deeps depending on the pixel color: www.mr-soft.net/en/bmp2cnc.html Not sure it can convert to a spherical surface do... tlehnhaeuser
Robert didn;t try your yet, but I will. I just wanted to try Blender first. So far I'm close with Blender. They only thing now it to use the facet surface I created in Blender as a Cutting tool in IronCAD. However I feel converting thsi model to a solid will crash my system. I would like to have a "Convert to Surface" optioned added to maybe help speed up the process and reduce crashing. t

I'm in the same situation as you were back then, wanting to 3Dprint parts that have surfaces modified by bump or displacement maps.
SSIMMONS
I would use Blender for this for sure. It will only take about an hour or less. There are probably tons of tutorials, but using the node layouts it would be fairly quick. You can even take a picture of a lime and use "crazyBump" to create the actual texture to put onto the object. An example of the results of this workflow are attached. It started as a flat photo and through nodes.... presto, 3D rock landscape. I also attached an example node layout you could use. -Spencer Edit: I also want to point out that I used a displacement modifier on this one also, which will not be seen in the nodes.
