Ok, I have tested whether it works when externally linking using the new Limited Reference option, and unfortunately, it does not (yet). I can't see a reason why it shouldn't, though. So this would be an easy ER: the main scene should not claim externally linked geometry that is linked via Limited Reference. This would instantly enable the described kind of collaboration. In addition, there should be a command to convert traditional links to a limited reference links, so older files can be updated easily.

Yeah this could be the option

Using External Links, the behavior of collaboration is as follows currently (without a Data Management System):

Example Case: Main.ics is the main scene with an Assembly and two parts under the assembly. Part1.ics and Part2.ics are both external linked files.

    1. If Main.ics is NOT opened on a machine. Users on different machines can open Part1.ics and Part2.ics independently to work on the files.
    2. If Part1.ics and/or Part2.ics are opened on user machines, another user can open Main.ics and work on the content of that file. If the user tries to edit Part1.ics or Part2.ics, there will be a read-only warning that these have already been opened and edited. Note: Changes to Part1/2.ics from the original users will not appear in Main.ics when saved (Main.ics will need to be reopened to get the updates).
    3. If Main.ics is opened first, users will get a read-only warning that Part1/2.ics are in use if they try to open them on another machine. Basically the owning file of the external links will lock out the other files on open if they are not already open.

Now if you have a Data Management system, this is different as these systems use the concepts of Check-out on the linked files. So the opening order is not restricted like it is above. A data management system could be Synergy, DDM from CSI, or our CAXA EDM system.

Hopefully, that will help explain the link management.

Now, I don't want to send you down a rabbit hole, but there is more involved way around this using Shrinkwrap. Basically, users could open a simplified version of the Main file (that refers to a Part1_Simple.ics file, for example). That way Part1.ics is never locked when the main file is opened. However, you either have to keep updating the Shrinkwrap file so that when the Main Simplified is open it gets the latest changes or users will need to know that the simplified is a placeholder and when they need the real update, they open the full model version. One of the nice things about this, it can help prevent modifications from happening in the Main file if not wanted.  Below is a video on this.

Hi Cary ,  It seems like I've run into a couple of hiccups. Shrink-wrapping a big assembly can be a bit tricky, especially when dealing with hundreds of parts assemblies . It appears that the shrink-wrap feature works best when selecting parts individually, but that's quite time-consuming in our case. Or is there a way to select big assemblies one ? . As for the linked subassemblies, I've managed to create a test file with a main layout containing two linked subassemblies. However, when i try to select a particular part to edit and the remaining stays as simple , the selection seems to be happening randomly, rather than letting you choose the specific part you want. Does that sound about right?

  3. Hi everyone, we're having trouble with three people working on the same project simultaneously. For instance, in our situation, all three of us are working on different parts of the project, and there's one main project layout. Currently, if anyone opens the layout, the individual files become inaccessible to others, which is not ideal. I believe other software allows multiple people to work on one project concurrently. Is this type of collaboration possible in IronCAD, or are we missing something here?

  4. Hi all

Does anyone know why the etched markings disappear when I unfold the sheet metal? Here, I've attached two pictures: the first one shows the company name that was etched, but when unfolded, it disappears. It was working fine on the old version of IronCAD. Are there any settings I can change or is this an error?

    Thanks

  5. Hello,

I understand the concept of the leg length decreasing relative to the bend length increase , but this in not the actual case on overbends.

As shown below, the underbends are ok, but the overbends get shorter until the leg length disappears with any angle over 168 deg.

This is when using ‘inside & outside sharp’ with either option of ‘Maintain folded length when changing angle’ and ‘Maintain specified length’.

The option ‘Maintain unfolded length when changing angle’ works with ‘inside and outside sharp’

Anyone know how to keeps the bend length same when we do over bends

  6. I updated IronCAD 2024 and loaded all my old settings into the newer version. When attempting to copy my keyboard shortcuts, I followed the instructions in the picture below. However, I encountered confusion when it instructed me to change the IronCAD name in two places. As I edit, I see multiple instances of IronCAD with different numbers, making it unclear which one to modify. I am uncertain if I am editing it correctly. If anyone knows the correct procedure, please guide me on how to do it properly.

  7. Hi all hope you all had nice Christmas and New year

When updating to the 2024 version of IronCAD, upon completing the process and launching the application, it prompts for a new license key. Do we need to obtain a new license key specifically for the 2024 version, as the license key for the 2023 version will not work with the updated software ?

    Thanks

    Or try this:

    IronCAD cleanup:
    1. Uninstall IronCAD.
    2. Delete these folders:
        C:\Program Files\IronCAD\2023
        C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\IronCAD
        C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\IronCAD
        C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\CAXA
        C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\CAXA
    3. Run regedit.exe and delete:
        HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IronCAD
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IronCAD
    4. Go to the folder %TEMP% and empty it as much as Windows will allow.
    5. Reinstall IronCAD.

I tried this yesterday still the same

I'm not sure why it worked in the other case (maybe a tolerance on the resultant face used for the mirror plane).

    Couple of notes:

    1. The curved stock has some specific requirements. For example, the start of the curve stock 2D Sketch needs to be a 0,0 of the sketch and needs to be tangent to the X at that location). When you start to move that off that location, other issues can happen.

I moved it to the start and made it tangent and it seems to work now (Green part). Again, I don't recommend this approach but it appears to work.

    Okay Thanks Cary

The issue is you cannot mirror the Curve Stock. There can only be 1 base stock. So you would need to mirror the sketch of the curve stock and then mirror the other features. Note you need to create a reference face using a temp shape that you suppress.

    Unfolding error.ics 192 kB · 0 downloads

so if that the case , how the other parts (trough) working hopper not , I made the trough by using mirror the curved stock. that one unfold okay

  11. Thanks all

I actually manage custom made one

this is the way I made it , not sure its the right way but its worked

Made a triangle with sketch tool in ICD and  then fill color it and then group all together save it in the catalog as left and right

    Hi Sarath,

I realise that you were specifically asking regarding ICD, but CAXA has this Weld Bead capability. The attached video starts with demonstrating how to create Stacked Weld Symbols in CAXA, but from around the 1:37 mark, the video then demonstrates the Weld Bead tool in CAXA.

    Malcolm

    Thanks Malcolm

I only familiar with ICD , never used CAXA , looks like CAXA have more options than ICD

I think I have to start using CAXA
