  1. Keep in mind that a welder and a grinder are magical things. Even with little corner gaps (the bend corners will just naturally create gape when bending) you can fill them roughly up to the thickness of the material and grind the visible bits flush to look really nice. This is from a more practical perspective, but if you want it to just look good on the screen and let a fabricator make it work then the method above looks really nice to me.

I made it with an extruded section (So you can easily change, and also a Draft to widen the back) and normal Constant Bends and with Bend-Full Round and with Bend-Hold Lines (I named the bends)

That was my first thought too. Just depends how much custom shaping you want in there because that way tends to create two completely flat sides (which is not necessarily an issue).

  3. Something similar to this? I did it very quickly so its not too pretty, but all I did was project that bottom edge, copy the sketch, modify, and loft. Then fillet (blend). If you want the entire handle you just do another sketch or three and loft it all. There are probably better ways, but I mostly work with sheet metal. Interested to see what other people come up with.

Hi everyone, for months now, one of my customer is running 5 seats whith NLM. The catalogs (Mechanical and IC) are saved on a brand new windows server. My customer reports that 80% of the catalog opening makes IC crash. Today, as a workaround, they first click on Save on top of the catalog browser and next they open the selected catalog. Does one of you have some advice for me or does one of you have an explanation about the workaround that in my opinion really makes no sense. One last information: they experienced the same problem even before moving to the new windows server recently. Thanks beforehand.

I do know that if you are trying to share catalogs on a server it is a no no in my experience. We have had all sorts of weird issues doing that, but you can keep a standard version on the shared server that people can then save off onto their own systems and it seems to operate pretty well after that. Maybe there are too many people accessing a shared catalog and it's crashing as a result? We have not tried it with larger than three people at a time so I am not sure how it would react.

I finally resolve this by a simple switch from DX11 to Opengl2  on the rendering settings of IRONCAD, why didn't I explored it earlier. I can open large assemblies with ease without a hitch h:( (slap on the forehead).  With that said, how long will opengl2 be to supported by IRONCAD and what hold in the future.

I have has issues with Open GL and Open GL2 where the part edges look like dotted lines. It is very odd to work with, does this not happen to you also?

    Hi Kim,

My errors are on the work pc at the office. I'll try to to look for one, if I can. Also just before changing the cpu: the catalog browser width keeps changing when I switch from drawing to 3D scene, user profile that gets corrupted 3x in my 2 years on that machine and random saving errors on onedrive. Are you also experiencing weird stuff lately?

This catalog expansion has happened to several people I know. Definitely not an isolated incident.

  7. This is more of a file management issue for sure. With the right admin rights to your server you can create groups for managing permissions (assuming windows). We use these permissions to control who can do what and do NOT allow people that don't know what they are doing to access files, especially linked ones. We implement training for new people that ensures they know how important it is to manage them correctly and ease them into less significant changes until we trust them fully (doesn't take long). There is of course the 3D viewer called "Compose" that will not allow changes more or less which will allow people from within the company to view the 3D files themselves with far less control. These people will generally not have IC at all and just the compose file viewer. Our shop, for instance, has extremely limited access and only has viewers and can only access certain files. I wouldn't expect IC to have to deal with the permission issues since its a file and folder issue at its heart. The biggest thing is to not allow people who don't know what they are doing to have access to those files and to calmly explain why that's the case if it comes up, I think you will find mostly anyone will understand and be fine with the viewer since that's all they are likely doing anyways. If they do want to mess with the model, just provide them with a quick, unlinked (use external link manager and one click) version and tell them to have at it.

  8. If anyone is interested, Blender has an addon called GIS which can pull in geography, topographical, and image data from public satellite information and use the topographical data to extrude land mass (mountains, valleys, etc.) and building also. You can then import this and use a top view to project the edges of all the objects or just bring directly into ICD, It is an extremely impressive tool, highly recommend trying. You can also generate a 3D landscape from a real one almost instantly if you are a videogame creator etc. When used in conjunction with IC, all sorts of crazy things are possible.

  9. I cant really understand any of that, but when you create a new configuration there are several check boxes that will allow you to suppress parts and other things without effecting the other configurations. Try reading through those.

    我无法真正理解其中任何一个,但是当您创建新配置时,有几个复选框可以让您抑制零件和其他内容而不影响其他配置。尝试阅读这些内容。

  10. Our DWG exports come in all white, but the actual layers are correct. It overwrites the "color" to be white so we just made a routine that automatically swaps everything to the color option "by layer" and everything works great. Hopefully that is helpful in some way.

Something that I've never understood, is how IRONCAD determines the default "Taper Start Position" when using Intellishape Surface Reshaping. It seems completely random or illogical to me; and I don't see how this default position is useful at all. Is someone able to enlighten me?

I've read the "Help" material regarding this, but I don't find the description to be helpful.

Haha so weird. Me and a colleague were talking about this just yesterday and we hadn't used the feature in probably four years.
