  1. If you can explain your workflow of how you take your IronCAD sheetmetal parts and supply to your vendor that would be helpful.

     

    Example:

    - Do you send them a flat blanks or the folded part?

    - Do you supply fully detailed 2D drawings?

    - Is there s standard K-Factor you use?

    - Do you have your own unique workflow? maybe using PMI or other?

     

    We supply fully detailed dimensioned 2D drawings of the finished part (not unfolded) with an overall 3D view of the part for reference. Never had any problems (bar one), our view is the sheet metal vendor has the experience and knowledge of his own machines and works in his own way, so long as the finished part is - to drawing - thats fine.

     

    I've only had one argumentative vendor (over 30 years ago) who said he could not manufacture from drawing, who challenged me to, "you do it from drawing", so I did, exact to drawing, his company was dropped off the supplier list.

  2. Problem - updating a BOM table either manually or automatically from a 3D model edit strips the item numbers from the "Item" coloumn.

     

    Insert a BOM, it gets populated.

    Make a change to the 3D model that affects the BOM, come back to the drawing and do an update, the Item #’s disappear on screen and subsequently stay gone.

     

    Undo does not get them back, subsequent updates neither, you have to manually edit and type them in or delete the BOM and put in a new one, either way another update looses the item #’s again !.

     

    Anyone have this, we have two seats of IC2016 with the recent SP1 patch, we had it on IC2015 as well.

  3. Hi,

     

    In mechanical drawing terms trailing zeros DO have a value. BS8888 (was BS308) gives the range, generally none = +/- 0.5mm, one = +/- 0.25mm, two = +/- 0.1mm. All drawings (in this company anyway, in the UK) are to BS8888 with the trailing zeros giving generalised tolerances, specifics (fits) are covered with individual marked tolerances per dimension, this keeps a complicated drawing simpler.

     

    The precision option sets the drawings general rules, and with us at least, no drawings are produced without the precision option, any drawings without are not valid and only regarded as rough sketches.

    Just a question which is´t IronCAD specific. I´ve been learned that trailing zeros does´t add any value. In math it does but not in mechanical drawing/design. When I wan´t to describe the degree of deviation from a value I use tolerances. Sometimes it is a +- value. General dimension values refeer to a standard like ISO 2768.

     

    Do you have different ways to define a tolerance value in US? For me the precision option in Drawing is strange and out of use. We have general tolerances like ISO 2768 for mechanical design and ISO 13920 that handles welded constructions. For me 32 and 32,00 is the same value and if the drawing refeers to ISO 2768-m both has a tolerated deviation +-0,2.

     

    Do you have different ways of handling tolerances?

    For me the precision option is a bad habbit of controlling deviations (deviations are controlled by standards).

    What is your opinion?

    Just want to understand how other people works and why it is there.

    Its one at a time but -

    Create a 3d curve for the path of the letters, generate a 3D letter of appropriate size and depth, Triball it onto the curve.

    Use the Triball to align the letter (EG to the center of a circular path).

    Right click drag the letters' triball centre handle, select "copy along curve", set the number of letters and the distance between, click the "Orientated along tangent" radio button, and OK.

    A new group of letters is generated plus the original one, group select those letters to position with the Triball (assuming a circular path), and edit the text individually. Delete the orignal or use it as needed.

     

    I don't see a way to generate a whole word and then fit it to a curve, any suggestions ?
