  1. Nice! I am almost breathless...
  2. Eric, I don't think its a license thing, its more likely that IC needs some code shunk from the CD.
  3. When specifying your PCs internal stuff, you may use this command: dxdiag Just print that name in the command prompt and press enter. A info box will show up telling you driver versions and card name and more. I think it is for W7 only...
  4. Magix Movie Edit PRO 17 It costs around 80$ or something in that range. a VERY good software for working with videos.
  5. Magix can do it. USE Green color to cut out the visible area of the LCD projector. Then have the LCD movie on a separate layer in Magix, behind the main video. Then stretch that separate video in Magix to make the video fit your LCD area.
  6. 3. You should be able to use dashed lines on partlevel: -Precice drawning mode (ICD) -Have or create a layer called Dashed and set linetype to...Dashed on that layer, in the layer creation dialog. -RMB the drawing view, Edit View curves. -Filter on PARTS on left pane. -Select the parts of choise and move them to the layer with dashed lines. Now some parts are dashed. Can be used for color also.
  7. The views "look" right in to the scene, acording to scene XYZ. So if you want the slightly turned part to be orto in your ICD view, then you can do one of two things. 1 orient the camera in the scene with F7 (look at). Then refer to "From scene" when you create the view in ICD. 2. Turn the part using triball and "Orient Triball to global" RMB option. This is often best used in combo with externally linked files. Turn the part in the external file. It will still be oriented correct in the assembly.
  8. The basic principle is: Dont put in more info in to the 3D models than you need (and know). For instance, in parametric systems, positioning objects is a two step process: Position and constrain objects. In Ironcad you only position objects. Constrain is an option if needed, not a basic way of how the program is designed to work. Ironcad is designed from scratch to work without constraints. (There is no "Rebuild assembly" button for instance.) Booth methods have their ups and downs. Ironcads way is better if you want to start modeling directly and get feedback from the screen how the model will look witch may make you want to change the models. Parametric modeling is better if you mostly change parameter values on existing models. Its more tricky to change how the models are built, cause you have to understand the parametrical relations between the objects.
  9. Also, you can use the Triball to copy the part. Then delete half the features on each part. That works also, and it is easy to understand and are predictable. Copy a even distance, then is is easy if you want the original position back. OR Copy zero mm/ inch. Then it is a little bit more difficult to differ the parts from each other.
  10. May this can help: http://www.sycode.com/products/skp_export_ir/
  11. And you can combo that with the famous "30" value change
  12. Depends on what kind of movement you want. -Can you suppress most of the parts while editing? and un supress at final render. -Create a new scene and animate a assy. Then insert the megaAssy and move it inside the animated assy. Then it follows the movement.
  13. -I can agree on that view as long as the user get the info on the new selection. If it´s all under "the hood" the assemblies can change it contents with out the users knowledge. That can be difficult to spot in large assemblies. -My personal view is to have a project with all its cad files in one project folder. All 3D scenes, drawings, PDF´s in right under that project folder. Folder name can be "PROJECT NUMBER + DESCRIPTION". Potentially have sub folders with QUOTES, MANUALS and such. -Also, under tools/ Option you can select to store the texture in the scene it self.
  14. Here is one way that may help: When you open up a scene and a linked texture is missing, then you are asked if you want to browse to a folder where it may be. After that is done IC ask you if you want to add that path for finding images in the future. I have a folder named C:\Ironcad bas\textures\often used textures\ where I like to put all my custom textures. Then I point IC to that path.
  15. Using OPEN GL2 as real time graphics driver:: File/New/Scene/ select BLANK template= Do not work. File/New/Scene/ select Ironcad blue template= Do work. Using DIRECT X, same behavior. Using OPEN GL, same behavior.

  17. I would go for 3.2 GHZ - 4 Core cause the higher GHZ. Meaning that the main thread IC runs will benefit from the higher GHZ. Sure IC uses one processor doing most operations ( I am not sure if the modeling kernels uses multi) but you will still benefit from multiple processors (more is better) cause all other things going on on you PC. Just look at the task manager... But for single treaded operations higher GHZ wins. Also, IC support export/ render images using separate processors/ threads. You may export renderings in the background and you shouldn't get much (if any) lag when you work in Ironcad. And potentially you may do FEA and other time consuming calculations in the background using additional processors.
  18. Think it is a 7 day trial: http://www.magix.com/us/movie-edit-pro/
  19. Tom, another trick can be this: -if you have a good video but it is to large, upload it to Youtube. Then use it there or download it from Youtube to use locally. Youtube have very good video compressing tech.
  20. Output the anim to a serie of images (.PNG). Then import the images to a video editor. Set the time per pic to something like 0.04sec. Then export it to some movie format of choice. use like 25 frames/ sec (RMB the editor to set) Peace of cake. If you images is 800x600 then export the video to...yes 800x600. You should find out on what device the final video should be used on. Many users export anims to like HD res witch many PCs don't have the power to show smoothly. I use Magix Movie editor PRO (like 80$) It is a must to have a video editor if you work with animations. The value of the resulting video is much higher with correct cutted videostrings, with logos, txt and even sound. You can animate to transparency for example.
  21. There is obviously some customers that buy computers like this: http://www.deskeng.com/articles/aabawr.htm
  22. Nice! Here is one more Press ALT key and watch some numbers show up in upper toolbar. Press 1,2,3 for direct command.
  23. DWG supports 3D. Remember Mechanical Desktop? Also you can do 3D solid modeling in AutoCAD (not LT). First there where the 3D AME module, then ACIS was implemented in to AutoCAD. If you have AutoCAD, at the promt enter ACISOUT (I think) then you get a .SAT out of the DWG. Not many DWG importers supports 3D. Its not that un common that users still do 3D solid modeling in a clean AutoCAD. Not the speediest way to create in 3D do.
  24. There is a new option in 2011 also. Annotation/ Mesurement/ Face Mesurement Face Click
