  1. Ah, seeing the country is a good idea!
  2. IronCAD does not have support for dual screens built into it. Running in dual screen mode significantly slows down the graphics (IE rotation) because your graphics card is only sending 50% to each monitor (we have proven this). So you're essentially cutting your CPU power in half. IronCAD "CAN" run on dual screens but it isn't convenient. Since IronCAD has the ability to undock its toolbars; you could have the viewport in one screen and all of your toolbars in another screen. Since IronCAD isn't coded for dual screen support however, the toolbar positions aren't remembers when you restart so you must move them every time you launch IronCAD if you want to use the second screen. So in summary: No.
  3. Hey Rick, If you ever feel like detailing what it was that you liked about the old board and what it is that you dislike with the new board; don't hesitate to let us know. --Chris
  4. hey Mike, the address is now http://www.ironcad.com/support/community/
  5. I just installed 6, created a hotkey, then upgraded to 7 and the hotkey did not remain. So I don't see any proof that hotkeys will cary forwards from 6 to 7 on their own.
  6. Hello, It is not possible for any version of any software to save up to the next version that did not exist when the previous version was created. The newer versions of ironcad though; can all load previous version files without requiring any sort of export or any other type of special operation.
  7. Microsoft has provided a tool at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301 which will remove the registry entries that IRONCAD 7 is finding that is preventing it from installing. Once the registry entries for 6 have been cleared by that tool (and reboot afterwords), then 7 should install. After 7 has installed, the user may delete the ironcad6 folder under /program files/ironcad/ .
  8. Please be aware that the new Windows XP Starter Edition will not be a supported platform for IronCAD's applications. For further info regarding the currently support operating systems you may review the "OS Lifecycle Announcement.txt" file which is installed by 6.0pu2 and up. In version 7 you may find this file under C:\Program Files\IronCAD\IRONCAD7\Readme .
  9. ooh I wonder where I can find some glasses... Hey I'm curious what Martin's asking price is for the engine, and what horse power it produces? I'm just interested in knowing what such an engine sells for.
  10. "Yep, I know the program , it's actually fantastic" "yeah" "it is" "good" hehe fun fun Thanks
  11. Since IronCAD is not actually written for specific network support; it just stores the path that the operating systems gives to it. So it's the OS that is giving us the UNC mapping instead of the mapped driveletter. There is no workaround for this on the IronCAD side. One OS side workaround "could" be that you rename the servers OR create an entry in the hosts file that maps the old servername to the new server IP address (but this would prevent the client from ever using the old server)
  12. Yeah, An optical scanner wouldn't do the interior cavitieis. There --must-- be some sort of sonic/magnetic digitizer out there that can do this like mri. ultrasound? radio frequency?
  13. Cool pics, thanks. I can't imagine standing that close to it when it fires up.
  14. Peter we have that inspiron in-house with the Radeon chip and it's a very capable system. The primary issue for laptop graphics is not the graphics chip so much any more (since all new chips are quite powerful compared to a few years ago), but instead the issue is the screen refresh rate. Most laptop screens run at 60hz, which creates a horribl environment for IRONCAD. Our inspiron runs at 120hz and so the refresh rate when orbiting a scene in IRONCAD, for example, is very nice. So whatever you do, insure that you can find a laptop which has a refresh rate that is higher than at least 72 hz. (IE, the best graphics card in the world will perform quite poorly on a 60hz screen) I can't comment on how the laptop will perform through the external monitor. You may not be able to get the higher refresh rate through the external port; I don't know. I don't know if you will experience enough lag through the external bus that the more powerful Quadro2go chip would be justified. If I can find a minute of free time today, I'll try to test that locally. So we're very happy with our Insipiron with the Radeon chip. While a real benchmark would show you that the radeon would outperform the geforce by a minor amount, there really is no noticeable difference between those to graphics chips. As for using a laptop as a primary workstation; that's a completely different issue. Laptops have far slower hard drives (so files take longer to load/save), a slower system bus, and they hold less ram. Definitly put as much ram as you can afford into a laptop in order to compensate for the other slow components. By the way; our inspiron has the Pentium 4 chip in it. We have not yet used a Pentium M chip, but I have heard many reports that while the Pentium M clockspeed is lower, it still performs just as fast (an in some cases faster) as the latest Pentium 4; and it's better for a laptop because of heat and battery requirements.
  15. I have heard volumes of good things about WS_FTP server and client for the casual home user. I think Floris runs an FTP server on a Windows platform, so you may wait for his response. He's on vacation for a few weeks.
  16. Hi Tom, Do you have a cleaner version of this file that I could use; or the original rhino file? --Chris
  17. Thanks Urban, this was a fun post to read.
