I suggested that one of our customers download the trial version of IronCAD. His company has about five seats of Inventor and he only has AutoCAD. His qustion to me after downloading IronCAD and liking what he saw was does IronCAD and Inventor seem to be on the same level of "professionallism". His supervisor kind of frowned on the idea of IronCAD and called it a "watered down, cheesy solid modeler" compared to Inventor. Inventor is one I have not used but I'm sure many of you have. Is there a way to make the flat layout for conical surfaces using IronCAD? I've looked at sheet metal tools but didn't see anything there I could use to unroll a cone. Any suggestions? Bill Fincher

I need some input on selecting a CAD workstation. Can someone explain why I should go for a Dell or Xi rather than buy a computer from Cyberpower. We plan to design casting and pattern tooling using IronCAD and do CAM work using Esprit. Looks like you can buy a 2.80GHz machine w/ 1G ram for much less than either a Dell Precision 340 or an Xi. Can't get the ATI Fire fire GL8800 128 MB video card I want on the Cyberpower so I would have to buy it from another source. I think I'm missing something. I need some help in explaining to my boss why I need to spend an extra $1000. Bill Fincher

Chris & Wim, your suggestions worked for making the cuts on the rolled part. My problem is that I know what the position of the holes are on the unfolded part and I want them to show up after I fold the part. Any suggestions for this? Bill Fincher Bill Fincher

I want to create a rolled 1/4" plate that is 92" long x 26" wide that has six square hole 6" x 6" punched in the plate. Is there a way to use sheetmetal tools to punch the holes on the flat layout and then roll the plate to a 132" radius? I have been able to use curved stock- unfold - punch the holes and then refold but the holes only show up on the flat layout. can someone give me some help in creating this part? Bill Fincher

Can someone give me a brief lesson in finding the center of gravity of a part. I know to go to tools then analysis and get the location but I guess I don't understand the coordinate system. Bill Fincher

Has any one used IronCAD to work with the FARO Arm? I am trying to work with IGES and SAT files created using the FARO Arm. I'm able to import surfaces using bot IGES and SAT but point don't show up. Wnen I import the same IGES files int ProE the point show up. Anyone have any ideas about this? Bill Fincher
