  1. another thing to try! After working on a large file for a while and saving ever so often the file gets large. Once done do a "Save As" and rename it. The New File will be much smaller. Dallas I brought in your "original.ics" and put a cube on it and saved it and It did it. Hard to understand why it works?
  2. If you keep Ribbon bar minimized the scroll wheel does not work. I have gotten the numbers before but did not know what caused it. Good to know. Dallas
  3. That is basically what I was saying in my original post. I mainly was looking for something that says "This is a problem it is being fixed" or "This has been discovered, and here is work around, and it is being fixed". And maybe add updates to it saying this is when it will be fixed. Like I was trying to say a place to look first before starting a thread that had already been talked about. And also a place for Kevin and Cary to post fixes and changes that came about due to phone and email assistance that had never been on the forum. Since both say that deal with so many things that we do not see here. Dallas
  4. Kevin You are probbly correct. I was meaning one that could only be opened by members. But if the member area is accessible by competitors then they can just do what we have to do. Read all new posts and search, and make our own list. Dallas
  5. IC Guys I think it would be nice if there could be another thing added to the "General Announcements" area, or somewhere. It would be a list from the IC guys about things that have been bitched about and are being looked at for future update. It does not necessarily need to be a forum but a place where "IC can post only" so it does not get out of hand and overgrown. We can use other means to discuss the proposed changes. This way we do not need to look thru all posts, do search, or wonder if it has been remembered by you that you said you would change in future. When we review and notice that there is something that needs to be added we can post "Bug Report" What do you think?? Dallas
  6. Kevin I understand that you need to try and comply with the wishes of the mass but consideration need to be tempered with real knowledge of what others think as well. The ones who yell the most are not always correct. Us old users are not always correct, sometimes we are a little reluctant to change. I am not reluctant to changes that are definite improvements or are sort of gradual. I just get tired of basically having to retrain myself ever time a new version comes out becaue what I had depended on for years does not work the same way, but accept it if it is truly better way. I also understand that all sales people are not to be trusted for there input in the case where if a change is made they stand a chance of making a sale. You mentioned the international connection. I also know there are vast differences in the way we do things here in US and the way they do things in europe since my company has been be bought by a German company. I do not think people like Eric and myself are attacking IC we just want you to understand that the changes you make "make a change in our lives" Since we sit and use IC almost all day and some of the protesters and proponents for change only use IC for a couple hours a day and most of them did not start IC till Vista and windows 7 era. I started doing cad and NC programming with a Tandy Color Computer. Trust me when I say I have seen my share of changes and have openly embraced the. When I see a post about something someone wants changed I have not always voiced my opinion about it when I did not agree, but I will in future. I also look at the "Member #" it lets be know in some ways how long they have been using IC and I am member 131 and Eric is right there with me in the beginning of IC. Do not get me wrong I value IC I just want to keep productive and not have to "Hunt and Click" my way thru a model. I think I can live with ribbon bar if only is is totaly customizable and the "S" key popup as well. The other thing is that you need to have more in "options "where people can set "ALL" or most of the defaults so all will be happy with the way things work. Back years ago When I wrote code I tried to have options changable when at all passable because I was not argent enough to always assume that My way was the only way. Dallas
  7. I agree in big part with Carlo. It seems that over time the imphise has been placed more on keeping up with what the other Cad systems had. If they have a cool too get it no problem. But cosmetics is not why I like IC. Down and dirty is fine if it is functional and fast. I can still produce a part faster then some other Cad systems but that speed has been greatly reduced by the hunting for the tools. And by the time my speed has built up after getting accustomed to tools or setting hot keys, the new version comes out and I need to start hunting al over again. Like Eric says moving to look more like a windows program is not necessarily the best thing in all areas. I have always thought that the problem is that the ones doing the software are more then likely young non users who have not needed to produce parts for a living just computer code. Granted you guys help direct them and use the input from users but I do not know what you use as judjement tools in whose suggestion you listen to. I some times think that it must be people who are new to doing Cad. Like when the version came out where when you export part it was default linked unless you deselected that, you had to fix that, and now when you offset a curve it is constrained unless you deselect (which needs to be changed. and when you project in 2D you need to pull down menu and select the project because the default is Project constrained. When are you guys going to get it that the majority of users do not link everything and do not want things constrained! Dallas
  8. thanks Cary I have never used the linking of things but I am trying them out and will need to learn a new skill set. Dallas
  9. In the attached file I created 2 disks with holes. The disk with small holes I dropped a hole on center and then moved it out from center and then using tri-ball I repositioned the anchor to center of big disk. I took tri-ball and rotated hole 7 times at 45°. When you select a hole and edit size box diameter the hole pattern radius changes. If you increase the hole size the hole pattern radius gets bigger. If you reduce the hole diameter the pattern radius gets smaller. If you edit the cross section of hole the hole pattern radius stays the same. The disk with the large holes I created the disk and dropped a hole on center and moved it out 4” with Tri-Ball. I then moved the tri ball to center of big radius, leaving hole anchor on center of hole. When you change the Hole diameter the hole pattern radius stays the same. My question, Is this the proper behavior? Dallas
  10. I had a crash a couple weeks ago and it turned out to be that my anniversary date for my yearly IC membership had rolled over to new year. I had to run the License manager and it worked perfect and have not had any problem since. Dallas
  11. They may be. this was by the way one of the first motorcycles built. The wheels are like wagon wheels and have steel band for tread. When the originals was built were made the streets were cobble stone and dirt so they would have been nice to have. These are built from scratch from original drawings as close to original as passable. They work. Last I heard they are selling for about $91,000.00 each. Dallas
  12. I can get this bike for you it is a hard ride though. Dallas
  13. I have no real input because I always use tri-ball to move objects. It works better. I only use smart dimensions to get dimensions. and I do that less and less since the addition of the "Measurement" tool. I do wish the measurement tool could be enhanced. but that is a different subject. As far as the "Smart Dimensions" I guess I am fine with the way it is basically because I have not used it enough to really judge it. Dallas
  14. IC Guys Why not start a thread called "Did You Know" where as often as each day IC guys would post a little thing about some commands or procedures that would help. Even the other Old time users could add their wisdom. The "IC Help Command" is sort of an joke in IC, not enough real how to information and on some things totaly non existent. It could even be referenced to in later threads. Or you could totaly revise the help command to have real information. Dallas
  15. It does that to me from the start. Dallas
  16. I have a problem that I think is related to this problem. About the same time that lines started showing thru this startred. When you turn a part Transparent it shifts most times in the "Z". THis can be seen int the attached picks. I created a block and cut hole in it. Dropped a block in the hole as stand alone and drug it to fit X,Y,Z the plug is flush with part as you can see in pic, Then I made the plug Transparent and blue. You can see that it looks like it is above the level of outer part. This is a problem for me since I create part of my views a transparent so the the internal parts can be seen. But if you look close you can see the other problem which is a small line going down into the pocket. It is the same amount of line extending down in the hole that the transparent part sticks up when made transparent. Dallas
  17. I get the lines as well but I also have a problem when moving around in the sene that my parts turn surfaces and cur up. as I zoom in and out this cut away like view changes.
  18. question: are you exporting from Scene or Drawing. I do not do much with sheet metal I but did a test with unfolded part that I created. I created in SCENE and unfolded. Opened blank Drawing and then scaled it up to 1:1. Did export sheet to .dxf. I had to select force true Representation box and export drawing view, and force 1:1 I had to use force True Representation (slower precise) because the arcs came out as vectors if I did not. Then I tried opening it in True View and it came in fine. Dallas
  19. I do not know what CNC program you use but I use Master Cam. I orient my part with tri-ball getting it correct relationship to machine and where 0 should be then export as a parasolid (.X_T). Then bring it into Master CAM. Dallas
  20. Cary I did like you said and put two cubes in the scene, much different in size, and added the bumpy texture. It is dramatic the difference you get. I agree that if I were making two different size parts in a scene and wanted a texture on them I would want the texture to be the same scale regardless of the part size. it is like typing a document you only want the character size to change when you want it too. A document would look dumb if the characters just changed size at there own whim. Dallas
  21. I agree with Eric. It would be nice if it simply would rotate in sink. My applications are round Dies rolling on and anvil roll and it would be great for me to be able to see them roll together. Dallas
  22. Cary I think a sort of combination I like the "X" over the Icon but then can you change the lettering to bold red. If you go with the proposed way put the "X" on the Icon as well as the red error message. Dallas
  23. I too have had problems with this type dimensioning system. You go back and add a dimension and they all go hay wire. Dallas
  24. Another problem with the thread is you can not save it to a catalog and then drop it onto an new part. This would especial be useful for those tapered threads. I was able to drag the threads to the catalog but was unable to place them on the part where they needed to be. The tri-ball is grayed out for the threads and was not active. Some refinements would be nice as thread creation is time consuming to get them to look exactly the way you want. Dallas
  25. Eric See attached you need the have the Bore side if the thread profile not on X0 or you will get bad thread form. in the scene open the shape and right click on the thread and edit the thread profile this is where I changed it when My start profile failed to give goo thread. You can edit everything, the hole shape, the pitch, the thread profile, till you get exactly evertyhing the way you want it. Dallas
