Cary OConnor
When you use the 3D SmartDimension, do you modify the dimensions using the parameter table and locked constraints?
Guest Floris Stam
Maybe the score of not using the parameter table is zo high because it's hard to figure out how it works and it's not working properly.
Mike Allen
To tell the truth, I use the 3D smart dimensions almost exclusively to check distances. If I've already placed a dimension, sometimes I'll use it to control the distance - but most of the time, I forget about the dimension and use the TriBall. Guest jkim522093
I agree to Floris. If we could use 3D dimension to control the geometries relative position easily using the parameter table, then people will use this quite often. But due to limited capability, only a few people seem to use 3D dimension to control the geometry position using parameter table or constraints. Guest Urban Olars
IronCAD is not "another parametric modeler", and it will probably never be as powerful as its competitors when it comes to parameters. However, if the functionality that is already there worked like it is supposed to do, I think it would be enough for most of us. Beside the bugs, there is a lot of things that can be done to make this more user friendly and understandable. The parameter table itself for example, can be quite frustrating to work with sometimes. cborer
You hit the point. I never understood how this is working, well I didn`t care to much. Anyway I often set a smart dimension and edit it later. This is perfect working and some faster than the Triball. Smart Dimension is perfect to arrange holes in a sheet. By the way I remember that smart dimension between 2 H Zylinders may fail. Am I right?
don_temple
In IronCAD I miss the ability to build fully parametric models. Yes, it is fast and easy to make changes in IC but that doesn't mean it should be lacking in parametric capabilities. Sometimes I just have to have those tools. The implementation of parameters in IC should be easier but I don't think that means more automation or slicker tools. Parametrics is tricky enough on its own and simple algebraic expressions are the easiest way to drive a model. I would really like to see access to all the parameters in a model in simple algebraic format as they are in Unigraphics. (even SolidWorks has overcomplicated the parameter game. Tables, columns and datatypes only confuse the matter. Product & injection mold design. www.QuickCAD.biz
