janttila
The .ics file extension is the same as outlook calender file, and outlook destroys tha ability to open a file in ironcad by dubbleclick, and in worst cases replaces the icon. Anyone knows about a fix for this or do i have to do it the hard way? /JA

janttila
No, Windows messed up some registry things regarding the different filetypes, if i choose open with ironcad i am lucky if just the ironcad icon returns to normal.
Guest IronKevin
To add to this problem, even if you manually change the .ics to open in IronCAD (or Notes ), later if you run Outlook it will take the .ics extension back. I have found no permanent solution for this short of uninstalling Outlook. IK
Cary OConnor
Well I don't seem to have the issues like everyone else states, so I'll show my steps. 1. Open Windows Explorer 2. Go to Tools/Folder Options. 3. Click on the File Types Tab. 4. Click on the ICS extension. Now you should see Change and Advance. If you have Restore, Click on Restore. 5. Click on Change and Select IronCAD.EXE and click ok. 6. Click on Advance. 7.On the Open Action, Click Edit. 8. Make sure the Application is set tot he ironcad.exe. 9. Click ok 10. Select on the Open Action Again and click Set Default. 11. Click ok to get out of the windows. That all I set. Cary
Mike Twining
...to add: Something that has helped me in the past when Outlook just REALLY REALLY wanted to keep the ics extension: Steps 1-4 above (via Cary) 5. Delete the .ics extension. 6. Hit ok 7. Repeat steps 1-3 (above). 8. Create a new filetype: .ics 9. Steps 6-11 (above). ...basically, delete the filetype (the OK is to committ the change to the registry), and re-create it...
fcarnley
I have never had a problem like this. I use Firefox web Browser with "IE tab" addon ( to switch to embedded IE engine inside Firefox, when a site requires it, then back to Firefox after leaving site ), and ThunderBird E-mail. I never use Outlook or Microsoft Calendar! I even uninstalled Microsoft Works after installing FREE OpenOffice Suite in my new Computer.
