tlehnhaeuser
When using the Extrude intellishape tool, is there any way to predict which way the X,Y axis will "point" when selecting on a face to extrude from? Is there some sort of indication from the WCA indicator? I have played around a slightly and couldn;t seem to come up with a solution. Any ideas? Guest IronKevin
You could use the 3-point placement option for the grid, or one of the other options in the Plane Type list. IK
tlehnhaeuser
Thanks Kev, thats what I thought. I was wondering if there was something to know in the automated way.
Guest IronKevin
We are working on a project called RYM. RYM would allow the user to connect his brain to IronCAD via a Firewire cable (or serial cable for the slower folks). Then when options like this come up IronCAD will know exactly what to do But seriously, do you have so ideas on how this could be automated? tlehnhaeuser
Yes, follow the WCA indicator orientation. See no wire ;-)
Guest IronKevin
Then what would we do when the selected face wasn't in line with the world axis?
tlehnhaeuser
Then what would we do when the selected face wasn't in line with the world axis? 13782[/snapback] Well Kev I see several ways: 1. Use same technology as your Smart View Technology (you know when the face orientates to your dominiate field of view. 2. Make the "X" axis "snap" to the "X" on WCA indicator 3. Have an option to pick an edge to align "X" axis. Or maybe all of the above. Tom
Robert Andersson
I agree with Tom. Metods to automate basic X Y orientation of grid can be : -Auto Point X/ Y to the side of the clicked surface with the largest surface area on. And make X aligned to the longest edge (if straight) If not straight, orient to global/ part global with respect to perpedicular to surface (or point) clicked. -Or use actuall view that the user have, and orient after that. -If the user clicks randomly in the middle of a surface, IC can slip to the nearest corner, or center point if circular. This should be an option under Tools/ Options/ to turn off on this behavior. Edited April 18, 2006 by Robert Andersson
tlehnhaeuser
Yup , as Robert states as an option. FYI I have ProE users eval IC and they get lost without an X,Y, Z orientation. I know its not really necesary for most users but users migrating to IC from othere apps come to rely on these things.
