General Modelling Create Link from Selection – Feature Level Link Support Extending the new capabilities added in IronCAD 2024 for Creating Links from Selections on Parts and Assemblies, PU1 now adds support for the Feature Level. Simply select multiple features and right-click in the scene or scene browser to access the Create Link option. This is only supported on features of the same part and on IntelliShape features (modification features are not supported, such as Blend, Chamfer, Boolean, etc). Lock Part/Assembly A new option has been added to Lock a Part or Assembly completely. This is more powerful than the Prevent Selection function because it does not allow any modifications (including Drag & Drop new features). This option is found in the right-click menu on a part or assembly under the Interaction menu. The Prevent Selection option allows adding features to the parts/assemblies. The lock will attempt to prevent all operations except structure changes, such as assembling/disassembling. Reset the Selection Filter Option on Selected Filters with ESC A new option in the Tools-Options-Interactions under Feature Behaviors has been added to allow the ESC key to reset the selection filter (in the bottom right of the IronCAD interface) to Any. Users can select filters like Face selection (and some commands like Blends can set Face filters automatically) and can now hit ESC to reset the filter to Any once done with selections. Face Section for Inner and Outer Faces In the Selection Filter (at the bottom right of the IronCAD interface), two new options have been added for the faces to select the inner and outer faces. Select a face that has an inner or outer pocket, for example, and these new filters will select all the faces of the inner/outer pocket. The face selected for determining the inner and outer faces will not be returned in the selection. Select All Smoothly Connected Faces with Tab Key Similar to the Tab Key on an Edge to select the smooth connected edges, the tab key can be used on a face to select all the smoothly connected faces on a part. Extrude Selected Faces (Multiple) to Distance A new capability has been added to multiple selected faces to create an extrude from the selection. Once multiple faces are selected on an individual part, right-click and select Extrude Selected Faces. This will create multiple extruded features from each selected face at a distance specified by the user. Note this only works on planar faces located on the same part. Width Advanced Constraint Support Selection of Faces from Multiple Parts The Advanced Positioning Constraint, Width, has been enhanced to allow the selection of faces from different parts. This allows the user to easily create a width constraint on parts based on faces from different parts. Sheet Metal Drag and Drop Sheet Metal Thickness/Material Behavior Improvement When reusing sheet metal parts, a new behavior has been added for the dropping pop-up dialog to select the sheet metal thickness. If the sheet metal shape only contains a stock (The default “Stock” in the bottom Image below is an example), the dialog will be invoked on the drop to allow users to select the thickness. If the sheet metal part contains bends, this dialog will not appear and retain the previous set thickness. Sheet Metal Bend Line Style/Layer Support Up/Down New Style and Layer settings have been added in the IronCAD Drawing (ICD) to set the Line Type and Layer for the Up and Down Bend Lines. This option is for the Bend Line Style. These options allow users to set different layers and lines to denote up and down bend lines for manufacturing. Custom Intellishape Properties Transfer to Unfold Geometry Sheet Metal Unfolds can now adopt Custom Properties applied to IntelliShapes on the folded sheet metal. These properties allow users to set Custom Property Mapping to place elements on different styles and layers for manufacturing. Custom Properties set on the folded part will automatically copy to the unfolded sheet metal part. Sketch Hide UnEdited Part Display A new setting on the display settings in the 2D Sketch for “Hide UnEdited Part” has been added to allow for better visibility when editing 2D Sketches. This setting will hide parts that may appear in front or behind the edited 2D Sketch, making it easier to see the sketch and edited part geometry simultaneously. Option to Display Hidden Sketch Items as Dashed Lines 2D Sketches will often appear behind parts in the scene, making it difficult to find or visualize the sketches. A new setting has been added to show these hidden sketches as dashed lines. In addition, users can directly select these dashed lines to select the sketch through parts for editing access. Structured Parts Create Sketch Command on Datum Planes In the right-click menu, a new option has been added to Structured Part Datum planes to create a sketch on the selected datum. This setting makes it faster to create a 2D Sketch on a datum which is a common process in structure part designs. Structured Frame Support for Decimal Settings on BOM Properties Users can now set the decimal precision for properties sent to the BOM for Structured Frames. In the Tools-Options-Parts, users can specify the desired decimal precision. Hidden Body Option to Exclude from BOM A new tools option under Tools-Options-Parts has been added to exclude hidden bodies in the BOM. This is used for the Body Properties in the BOM setting on Structured Part Bodies. Extrude Features Support for Multiple Bodies When creating Extrude Features on Structured Parts, users can now apply the extrude to multiple bodies. Default behaviors for Extrude Thru All will automatically select multiple bodies to the fullest extent. The global economy is moving from the Information Age into a new Innovation Age, which will demand a workforce trained not just in the “three Rs” but with skills in problem-solving to create new ideas, new technology, and new creative content. To address this need, the Georgia Institute of Technology created the K-12 InVenture Prize to develop the next generation of engineers and entrepreneurs by making invention education accessible to all students and teachers in Georgia. What Is K-12 InVenture Prize? InVenture is an invention experience and competition for K-12 students that challenges students to identify real-world problems and design novel solutions through careful analysis, creativity, and the scientific method. The students participating in the K-12 InVenture Prize are bright and motivated, supported by dedicated teachers and parents. As a proud sponsor and presenter of the K-12 InVenture Prize for over five years, IronCAD provides software, teacher training, and support to the classes participating in the InVenture Prize. Each year, IronCAD team members were fortunate enough to sit amongst the judging committee, reviewing and rating the innovative array of imaginative projects and offering encouraging advice to participants. And The Winners Are… This year, IronCAD had the honor of once again presenting the IronCAD Mechanical Design Award, and for the first time, there was a tie for IronCAD’s top prize! Team #1 | Photocatalytic Aerosol Can and Catalytic Converter With this innovative catalytic converter and aerosol spray can, carbon and CFC emission can be greatly reduced using photocatalysis to convert harmful chlorofluorocarbons and CO2 pollutants into more environmentally safe products. This will help cut down overall harmful effects and reduce global warming and ozone depletion. Students | Max Habeger, Maleeq Ellsberry, Aly Kajani Teacher | Austin Russell The New School Atlanta | Fulton County Team #2 | Rollo: Their product is a game named “Rollo,” a gamified app that you pay one U.S. dollar to unlock one of four worlds. Three-fourths of the money made by the app will go to the country’s education, and they are currently funding four countries. Students | Alexia Waters, Escher Friedman, Rohan Manginelli Teacher | Lisa Rogers Smyrna Elementary School | Cobb County Due to both teams’ impressive inventions that were created using IronCAD, the IronCAD judging panel honored both teams with the 2023 IronCAD Mechanical Design Award. “I love this event and finding teams that have a passion for thinking out of the box, and every year I’ll find a team that uses design tools differently, and I just love that spark of innovation.” Stated Cameron Schriner, Software Engineer and Education Program Coordinator at IronCAD, when determining this year’s IronCAD Mechanical Design Award winner. “I was so impressed with the Photocatalytic Aerosol Can team for not only the intricate lattice detail in their filter but also for their innovative design allowing their filter to attach to a wide variety of cans right off the shelf! Team Rollo’s design may have been simple, but when you learn they are in elementary school, you can’t help but be so impressed. This team’s learning a professional design software to design a game around their character was inspiring.” IronCAD is committed to encouraging and providing support for students to help inspire them to learn through invention and entrepreneurship. Available in: http://www.ironcad.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/product_icon_ironcad-64x64.png Detail View Refers to Face Geometry Location In previous versions, the detail would associate a point that would be selected in the definition of the detail circle. Thus if the geometry updated and the point moved, the detail view would move as well. If the Centerpoint was defined on a face, there would be no association and the detail view could become disoriented on update. Now in 2022, the location on the face will be remembered and the detail view will move when that location moves on an update to provide a more consistent result. Available in: http://www.ironcad.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/product_icon_ironcad-64x64.png BOM, Tables, Revision, Hole Table, and DV Table More Consistent Updates have been made to the display and consistency of the tables used in the IronCAD Drawing Environment. Available in: http://www.ironcad.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/product_icon_ironcad-64x64.png General Modeling and User Interface Improvements 3D Rotation Improvement About Center Improvements have been made to the 3D Rotation using the Middle Mouse button in the 3D Scene to rotate about the scene center when the cursor is located in space. Previously, the rotation will rotate about the object the cursor is located on. If it was in space, it would use the last set rotation “about” location which could cause the scene to rotate about an arbitrary location at times. Now it will calculate the object and the scene center to rotate about to give a much more predictable rotation result. This is a useful feature to control the behavior of shapes that may have limits on the design size. Simply set the upper and lower limits and the drag will stop when that limit is reached. Editing the SizeBox value edits (or parameter edits) will not be limited in this release. Available in: http://www.ironcad.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/product_icon_ironcad-64x64.pnghttp://www.ironcad.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/product_icon_inovate-64x64.png SizeBox Snap Setting Remembered Per Shape Now you can control the desired snap increments per shape at the SizeBox level. This functionality will only recognize the first two fingers that touch the screen in order to ensure proper gesture recognition. Because of the way Windows releases their API versions, this will not work on Windows 7 and instead will only work on Windows 8 or newer. Below is the added Gesture support Performing a pinch gesture in a scene will perform a zoom in/zoom out. Performing a two-finger drag will pan the scene Touching and holding with two fingers for a second will bring up a right-click menu upon release Tapping with one finger will do a normal scene selection Dragging with one finger will perform an orbit Holding CTRL while dragging will cause the program to not rotate and instead perform a click and drag operation, this is used mainly for handles and to prevent mistouches causing rotations. This is also used for adding sketches to the scene Available in: http://www.ironcad.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/product_icon_ironcad-64x64.pnghttp://www.ironcad.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/product_icon_inovate-64x64.pnghttp://www.ironcad.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/product_icon_draft-64x64.pnghttp://www.ironcad.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/product_icon_compose-64x64.png IronCAD Embedded Screen Recorder Located in the Help Ribbon Bar, a new Record command is available to record the IronCAD application window and actions. 15. Cloud computing is a rapidly growing solution for issues related to data storage and collaboration. Cloud collaboration is a method of collaboration where multiple individuals may access, review and edit a document over the cloud from any location typically on any device. IronCAD has recently launched the Synergy Platform. This advancement in the way we store and share data has led to a number of benefits that allow IronCAD users to connect and work collectively as a team – and efficiently and productively. Here are five benefits of cloud collaboration on the Synergy Platform. Benefits of SYNERGY Cloud Collaboration Platform: Improved team collaboration When documents are stored in a shared place online, it becomes easier to find and access them. Employees no longer have to constantly email their team members just for an updated version of a file. Moreover, when team members have access to the correct file versions, it makes discussions smoother, ensures everyone is on the same page (quite literally), and remarkably improves team collaboration. Sharing all the project details and files with the entire team also improves employee engagement since all team members have an equal opportunity to offer their input. Being in the cloud also means access is globally available at any time from anywhere giving users better ways to work and communicate especially as a result of the global pandemic change in how business and office work environments have changed. Teams can easily use the Synergy Platform and collaborate seamlessly in the cloud or directly from within IRONCAD through its IRONCAD Client integration. Faster access to large files Most email servers cannot handle documents that are bigger than 20-25 MB. To send large files to team members, you would either share them offline through USBs and external hard disks or upload the files on a cloud storage provider. Sharing files offline isn’t just time-consuming, but it is also an impossible option for teams working remotely. Cloud storage and collaboration on the Synergy platform allow teams to share large files with no delay or distribution dilemmas quickly. Once you upload a file online, you can share the same shared link with all team members at once. Asynchronous Collaboration & Communication The importance of asynchronous collaboration for companies can’t be understated. Over the past year, we’ve witnessed a change in the way organizations work, communicate, and collaborate and many companies were forced to operate remotely for the first time. While such a shift was inevitable, companies need to evolve the way they communicate and collaborate. Collaborating asynchronously doesn’t mean never having to meet together, but rather it simply means that we don’t all have to work in the same place at the same time in order to work together. With the Synergy platform, teams can work on projects at any time without being in the same room or even the same country. By adopting and embracing an asynchronous method of collaboration, companies see increased productivity and newfound synergy between how seamless it is to collaborate and communicate with their internal teams and with external clients using the Synergy Platform. Furthermore, each collaborator can access, use, or modify the data at their own time and the latest update and upload data are available for everyone. Any confusion over which version is the latest is eliminated with cloud collaboration. With reduced reliance on synchronous communication and messaging to get work done, asynchronous collaboration enables an ideal employee experience regardless of location and time zone. Setting custom permission levels You don’t always want to share company data in the same way. A collaboration tool should allow you to set custom permission levels and you should be able to decide who can view and edit the documents. For instance, you might want to share essential items with specific users, with the Synergy Platform you can manage who can access and release files eliminating unwanted changes by other groups of users. Viewable data should be allowed to share easily over the cloud with all collaborators whereas design data may need more security to protect intellectual property. Centralized file storage One of the main features that your cloud collaboration tool should have is the ability to build an online repository where you can save all the work-related data. It can serve as the enterprise storage solution for your organization, allowing employees to find and access essential data in a secure manner. In addition, cloud-based collaboration systems reduce the IT management from individual companies since this is managed by the hosting company. To effectively incorporate cloud collaboration in your organization, you need the right tool with all the required collaboration features and one that integrates easily with your existing applications and IT infrastructure. IronCAD Synergy is that platform that creates synergy within your organization. View the full article

  17. IronCAD, the leading provider of design productivity solutions, today announced the immediate availability of the latest version of its fully integrated Multiphysics for IronCAD (MPIC). Since the unveiling of Multiphysics for IronCAD, the usability and robustness of MPIC have been appreciated by many users. Each year, additional improvements and refinement have been added to further increase the ease of use and functionality. Most of these new features are based on user feedback and request to speed up the design cycle, simplify analysis setup, and reduce analysis times. In MPIC 2021, IronCAD has included several key technologies designed specifically for CAD design analysis. The focus is on general CAD designers and users who want to adopt design analysis earlier in the digital prototyping cycle, and aim to provide accurate, realistic, and quick analysis. As such, most of these improvements are in the assembly analysis functionalities. In the past few years, IronCAD has developed the new tolerance assembly meshing technology for uniting assembly parts as an integrated connected body with optional material assignment for analysis. This new technology uses parts’ discrete boundary surface facets to smartly unite parts together for design analysis, rather than rely on CAD kernel’s Boolean operation that requires precision matching, or for models with intentional gaps between parts for welding, thermal expansion or shrinkage control. In the 2021 update, IronCAD has further implemented the element mesh silhouette display method to identify the solid model’s face, edge, and vertex recognition from the discrete union processes. As compared with the traditional finite element mesh display, only the recognized face edges are shown to clearly visualize the discrete model rather than showing a large amount of finite elements’ edges that complicate the scene. Using the silhouette mode, if the assembly is meshed and discretely jointed properly, there will be additional edges/vertices between the union parts, and the silhouette mode will clearly show these newly generated and identified geometry details for easier review. This will allow the user to examine the discrete union’s correctness and also speed up the discrete model rendering and result review without the voluminous element edges. For large models with millions of elements, using silhouette mode usually makes the result review and animation much faster and easier than the traditional mesh display. Along with the new silhouette display update, the upcoming version will have new multithread meshing capabilities to fully utilize all computing cores to speed up large model/assembly analysis. An early preview version will be available to customers with a maintenance/support subscription in the Q4/2021 timeframe. 18. IronCAD 2021Product Update #1 Extending IronCAD 2021’s Usability and Productivity We’re excited to announce the latest release of IRONCAD 2021 Product Update #1, which focuses on extending the usability and productivity of IronCAD 2021 making your innovative 3D designs get to production faster. This new release contains many exciting improvements and capabilities that help you drive innovation, reduce design time, and communicate more efficiently. Our goal for IRONCAD 2021 Product Update #1 was to continue improving on usability by reducing steps on common functions, providing more tools to enhance productivity in 3D and 2D detailing, and extending collaboration and communication tools and functions. Below are more specific details about this release and focuses specifically on the following areas: Quick Links User Interface and Usability Improvements General Modeling and Sheet Metal Design Improvements Drawing Environment Improvements Collaboration and Sharing Updates User Interface and Usability Improvements Improved Behaviors in Symmetrical Handles IronCAD IntelliShape Handles are a key aspect of designing with IronCAD. One of the powerful capabilities is the ability to push and pull the IntelliShape handles to size features symmetrically. There are multiple methods to perform symmetrical sizing and the most common are to use the toggle handle, ctrl select handles, and right-click drag handles. New behaviors for the right-click drag and ctrl-click multi-select handles make it much easier to quickly symmetrically size handles and to move on to other tasks. In previous versions, these commands would remember this state and set the handles to remember this setting so that if you click the handle again it would remember that it was a symmetrical handle. Now it will no longer remember this setting. It will simply symmetrically drag and reset the handle to its previous state. Cut lines allow both the combination of bend and cut to create bend regions like thin tabs that can even be found on thin products or corrugated packaging products. Cross breaks are most commonly in an X shape, forming a slight pyramid shape in the metal without overly distorting it. The crossing ridges stiffen the face of the metal and help prevent it from buckling under a load. When used correctly this bending method offers a very cost-effective way of strengthening your parts. Cross breaks are often incorporated on machine enclosures and ductwork where the added rigidity reduces noise from vibration or airflow. Both options are found in the Sketch Bend tools and can be applied in a single sketch bend feature if desired.
