  1. I agree, that camera tools must be enhanced.

I think, easiest way is move the model, using Tribal. Not a camera.

Using ideas from SketchUp lessons. Create sketch with long 2D lines (XYZ) and using Tribal align this "axes" along the edges of the object in the picture. In this case the plane for future modeling will be placed as needed for you.

  2. Does anyone have an approach to modeling the actual "waves" in glass as shown in the image. Scanning is not an option, client wants to make a 3D print of a bottle using this wavy glass effect.

    Any help is appreciated.

What about the software for free form sculpting? Some times ago we talked about one in this forum.

  3. Splitting the window not very useful in my case. Because, even in separate window I can not see thru the camera in the Key of the Path. New window shows only view from first Key in the Path. Will be useful if I'll can see thru camera (in any selected Key) when moving the Key using Triball, for example.

If the cameras disappeared in scene, try to Recreate Display. Some times this helps.

  4. Love them......Been using a spacemouse almost since they came out. Would not do CAD without one. I personally own 5 of them. A couple are obsolete now, but they have been worth every penny in my opinion.

    Thank you, Mike!

Very interesting to know the opinion of real users.

  5. The main problem when using network drive for collaborative design by multiple people is:

Need to be always in touch with other. For example, you added several new parts in main assembly ("A" and "B") and saved it to server. At the same time, your colleague add to its copy of the main assembly another one new part - "C". This copy of assembly don't have your two parts. If the colleague save this assembly to the server, then the assembly will overwritten and will have only new part "C". This is a problem. All your work will be lost. For this case, for example, the PDM systems make the CAD document read only for others, when somebody opens it for editing.

Collaboration on the one assembly by several people is possible if you will use the technique top-down design, like skeleton models or master model.

In short, you create the main assembly as a template. Using sketches, points, axis, etc you mark the key dimensions of your design. Then spread, for example, copying the individual elements in a part or subassembly. And everyone works only with their files, filling their geometry.

  6. Did you try?

...not too much import data possibilities no Step / Iges

No, I have not tried. But free version for evaluation purpose only is available by a request.

This is not for mechanicals CAD. So, 3ds, obj and COLLADA dae are in priority.

Now I play with 3dvia Scenes. Not so pretty look, but you can drive your 3d avatar in a building. Like in a game.
