  1. I think the SDs work fine now. However, I would like to have the unidirectionality visualized graphically, e.g. by a circle for the fixed end and an double arrow head for the moving end. In the properties, you could have a bi-directionality setting which should result in displaying a double arrow head for the end that moves primarily, and a single arrow head for the end that move secondarily. Just an idea...
  2. Last evening, IC2011-PU1-64 crashed on me and when I launched it again, IC said it couldn't obtain a license. Since then, I've tried everything I can think of (except a clean system reinstall), including running CCleaner, Registry Mechanic, System Restore, un- and reinstalling the license and IC (plus cleaning out directories and common registry location by hand). All accompanied by numerous system restarts, of course. No luck! The license management tool seems to work fine and reports no problems whatsoever. If anybody out there has another idea, I'd be so grateful!! Beat Addendum: OK, I got it to run again. I've installed a 2 week old registry backup. Not exactly according to the book but it did the job. I lost a lot of settings and had to reinstall a number of programs afterwards (incl. IC), but for the moment, my machine is functional. If there is a safer way to solve that problem, I'd still be keen on knowing it, just in case a face the same situation again.
  3. Lucky guy! Last evening, IC2011-PU1-64 crashed on me and when I launched it again, IC said it couldn't obtain a license. Since then, I've tried everything I can think of (except a clean system reinstall), including running CCleaner, Registry Mechanic, un- and reinstalling the license and IC (plus cleaning out a directories and common registry location by hand). No luck! Interestingly, I've installed a new wireless router yesterday (Cisco E4200) without installing software on my machine, though. And no, disconnecting the router doesn't help either
  4. There used to be a feature in the free IronPro catalog which did exactly that. Does anybody know where it went?
  5. I didn't have time to participate in the beta testing this time but I've now been running IC XG (eXtra Goodness?) for a couple of days and I must say that I'm impressed. I still have to get used to (or maybe not) to the ribbon UI and I'm probably not going to use structured parts very much (although they may come in quite handy in certain situations) but I just love the new pattern, mirror and scale features, the possibility to convert solid to hollow shapes, etc., etc. Also, the UI of the 2D sketch mode is a lot better (again, after the mess in IC11). All in all, the UI seems to have gained a lot in consistency. Good job, IC folks.
  6. Sure. But how do you get the cooling liquid through airport security? Seriously. Is the machine you're talking about a laptop? If so, I'm really interested.
  7. Hey Eric, sounds nice but I think I'll need a bigger lap to put that baby on top :-)
  8. Thanks Mike I see your opinion is very similar to mine. There have been reports that IC is running A LOT faster under 64bit, so that is mostly why we're going for it. I'll probably go with 4x 2GB RAM, because the price for 4GB modules is still very high. In principle, I would also agree with you regarding the FX3700. But with a laptop, power consumption and heat generation are also need to be considered.
  9. Can you be a little more specific? Rendering mistakes or more serious problems? Have you had better feedback/experience about the FX 2700?
  10. Soon it will be time to replace our "mobile workstations". Since we do all of our IC work on these, we need fairly powerful machines. On the other hand, we don't like to waste money on expensive stuff that doesn't really provide a clear advantage. So there are a few key decisions to make. Your comments are highly appreciated. - XP64 - Vista64 - Win7 Do you think Win7 is already stable enough? We'd prefer to skip Vista and we don't like the idea to do a complete re-install a few months from now to migrate to Win7. - Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 (2.8GHz) - Intel Core 2 Extreme X9100 (3.06GHz) - Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad Core QX9300 (2.53GHz) Are the Extreme CPUs much faster than the Duos? Will IC profit from a quad-core CPU in the next 2 years or will it run faster on a higher-GHz duo-core? - NVIDIA Quadro FX2700M (512MB, 48 cores) - NVIDIA Quadro FX3700M (1GB, 128 cores) Will IC really profit from the FX3700? Cheers, Beat
  11. That IS an improvement Gimmemoa!...
  12. How are the improvements to the new UI coming along? I thought I would adjust to the new editor after a while, but it's actually quite the opposite: I'm yearning for the V10 editor more every day. The new editor is a real PITA, to say it bluntly (sorry). Is there any way I can have the V10 editor back? (PLEASE!!!) Beat
  13. I agree with the others. The old way was better. Maybe I can get used to the new one, but the lack of math in the entry boxes is a total killer. Beat
  14. Hey Tom I think we have pretty much the same taxes, the question is just what the rates are. Anyway, do you consider the US a democracy? If so, you shouldn't rant against taxes but do something about it (electing a decent president was a first step in the right direction, I think) and rant, if anything, against your compatriots and their bad habits (e.g. building up debts or nonsense suing) . :-)
  15. Yes, CASE CLOSE means we found someone. Amdi, danke für das Angebot. Vielleicht ein andermal. Cheers, Beat
  16. Anybody interested in milling some parts for us: please read my post here. Beat Moderators: I'd be grateful, if you'd wait a couple of days before removing this message. Thanks.
  17. Hi folks We are looking for somebody who is willing and able to mill 5 small mounting blocks (17212A_17216A_Mounting_blocks.ics, 2-6 pcs each) for us. The parts should be really simple to make on a 5-axis mill (probably even a 3-axis machine with rotatable head and vise will do). Quantities: 17212A: 4 17213A: 4 17214A: 4 17215A: 6 (mirror image of 17214A) 17216A: 2 Material: Aluminum (steel of brass are also acceptable, if easier for you) General tolerance: +/-0.1mm or better depth of M4 threaded holes: 8-12mm We need the parts ASAP, within a week, if possible. Anybody interested in doing this for us? Or do you know a forum, were we can ask for this. TIA, Beat 17212A_17216A_Mounting_blocks.ics
  18. What is the 4GB switch? I'm only familiar with the 3GB switch. Beat
  19. I've only tested it quickly with IC-generated 3D PDFs (since I use Acrobat 8 3D and Acrobat 9 pro extended to generate 3D PDFs from .x_t files) and the rendering seems to be identical. Beat
  20. Well, have a look at the old Atari 400/800 OS! Running a game like Star Raiders with strategic mode as well as real-time 3D-fly-through-space-and-kill-the-Zylons mode, all from a 8kB ROM cartridge on 3.5kB of free RAM (because the rest of the 16kB RAM was used for video)! With that sort of efficiency, imaging what IC could be like on today's hardware! Of course, you would have to go back to assembler coding (wanna hire me?)... Or do you remember BeOS? When I booted that on my Mac, I was suddenly able to run 8 QT videos smoothly in parallel, when MacOS couldn't even handle a single one properly on the same machine... At the moment, our company has only two compelling reasons not to switch to Linux: IC and Filemaker Beat
  21. No, the main problem is that the model tree with part and assembly names is not retained. That makes it impossible to collaborate efficiently because I cannot tell the customer to look at, hide, or isolate a certain part, for example. When I export as Parasolid and import into Acrobat 3D I get the full model tree as well as file format and compression setting and the possibility to define the intial view (rendering mode, background, etc.). Beat
  22. Windows 7 is more than a rumour. It's the successor to Vista, planned to be released in 2009 or 2010. It's said to be more compatible with XP than Vista is, but that IS a rumour, AFAIK. We're still adhering to XP and I think we will probably skip Vista entirely. Beat
  23. We are using 3D PDFs (generated in Acrobat 3D from .x_t exports, not from IC directly) with great success. Like Carlo, we have also come across the problem that customers who have an older version of Acrobat on their machine are not able to run a current version of Adobe Reader. But that's an Adobe problem and I presume there is little that IC can do about it. Still, overall, 3D PDFs have turned out to be a much better solution than anything else we have come across because it is widely accepted. Generally, people have much less restraints to upgrade to the current version of Adobe Reader than to run a (dubious) .exe or install an unknown viewer. Beat
