1. It's an old but still unresolved issue, right? Or have I missed something?

In any case, how about having a setting in IC to have it open .ics files in your program of choice if they are recognized as calendar files? Could be as simple as defining a command line with the filepath of the .ics file...

you need an exact model? becuase I would use the image as a scene background as the image with NO stretching and then orientate my models view to accomodate. However this is purely conceptual approach.

Yes, that's an alternative to using a transparent window. However, the part that I'm interested is a procedure to orient the models to accommodate/match the image. Ideally, I would want to select 4 vertices of the model and 4 matching points in the image and then IC would adjust the camera settings. I find it very hard to achieve this by panning, rotating, zooming and dollying the camera. But maybe there is a systematic approach? Or some tools I'm not aware of?

Hi Ludin,

Do you mean that the dimensions of the block in IronCAD and the dimensions of the "virtual block" in the photo need to be matched?...

No, I need to match and model other geometry in the picture. Let's say I have a picture looking at the corner of a block with strong perspective with strong perspective. I know the size of the block and I need to align the view of the scene (camera angle, view angle, and direction) to match that of the picture, to model an opening in one of the faces of the block according to the overlayed picture, for instance. I don't see how importing the picture into the scene would be helpful.

4. Every now and then, we would like to align an IronCAD scene to an overlaid (using a utility to make a window transparent) photographic picture using known geometry present in both (let's assume a block, if it makes things simpler). I've never found a good way to achieve this. Does anybody happen to know how to do that?

5. Ok, I have tested whether it works when externally linking using the new Limited Reference option, and unfortunately, it does not (yet). I can't see a reason why it shouldn't, though. So this would be an easy ER: the main scene should not claim externally linked geometry that is linked via Limited Reference. This would instantly enable the described kind of collaboration. In addition, there should be a command to convert traditional links to a limited reference links, so older files can be updated easily.

6. I do not work in such an environment, so I am not an expert in these matters. But since all the externally linked geometries can be edited from the master/layout/parent scene, the described behavior makes sense to me. However, I expect that using the new "Limited Reference" type of external link that is described here https://www.ironcad.com/blog/whats-new-in-2024/#_Toc153481182 , (which doesn't allow editing the linked geometries from the layout file) might actually solve your problem.

7. Is there a type of constraint that allows the simulation of gears in mechanism mode?
I'm not looking for a full physical simulation with interlocking teeth. A constraint that defines the relative rotation (if A turns by x degrees, B turns by +/-f * x degrees)  or roll/shift (if A turns by x degrees, B shifts by y mm) would be sufficient. Adding some kind of of backlash factor would be a nice topping.

8. Yes, but that doesn't save me from hand-typing the 100 height values, right? I'm looking for a possibility to increment a parameter automatically. Or, as more flexible approach, have IC iterate through the rows of an Excel sheet an generate a new part/shape reading the parameter values for each part/shape from a new row.

9. How can I generate a series of copies with an incremented parameter? Let's say I need 100 versions of a part with heights ranging from 1 to 100mm? Can this be done in IC somehow? If not, I would put in an ER to have the copy dialog feature an "increment parameter" functionality.

didn;t try your yet, but I will. I just wanted to try Blender first. So far I'm close with Blender....

Tom - have you actually found a way of doing this? Possibly even within IC, i.e. w/o a detour to Blender? I'm in the same situation as you were back then, wanting to 3Dprint parts that have surfaces modified by bump or displacement maps.

11. Thanks for the hint Cary, but I will definitely need those parts to be transparent that are set to be transparent. So yes, an option would be needed to make the active part feature usable for me. Can you take that as an ER or should I open a thread in the ER section?

12. I have the settings like this except for the low quality transparency, which has the biggest effect but is not giving satisfactory rendering.
It would be nice if there was a choice not to make everything transparent upon activating a part. Often this is not needed.

13. I have tried the Active Part feature. And I noticed that IC becomes slooooooow when I set a part as active (e.g. rendering drops from 10fps to 0.1fps). Has naybody else noticed this? Is there away to avoid that (other than reducing the part count)?

Cheers,

14. I would like to generate a helix along a 3D curve, or sweep&rotate a profile along a 3D curve, or model a bent spring... I hope I can make myself understood, there's many ways of describing this. Is this possible with IC and if so how?

Cheers,

15. SketchFab and GrabCAD require the Scene to be saved, I am looking into why your Cadenas would be greyed out.

48537

alright, I had overlooked that. That made SketchFab and GrabCAD turn on. I had actually checked Cadenas with a saved scene (because that is, what I'm after really).

16. Is it possible you didn't select Cadenas during the IronCAD install?

48538

This is conceivable, although I don't think so. But why would the icons be there and the add-ins be listed and checked in the add-ins listed, if I hadn't installed them?

Anyway, how can I check and, if necessary, install them?
