You might try changing the driver type for rendering in Tools>Options>Rendering. Sometimes I've found that it made a big difference when large assemblies were slow or freezing. You need to restart Ironcad for the change to take effect.

Here's the link for Service Pack 1 but it doesn't look like the full install.

I would like to always work in the original IronCAD Drawing program (ICD). I work in it as much as possible. I love that it lets me get colored cross sections of assemblies. They are very useful for communicating (with the types of 2D documents I tend to create). My difficulty with ICD, is that I can see geometry on my screen, but it doesn't always put connection points on the geometry. Many times, I'll want to dimension to a "point" that just isn't there. If the program knows enough to project the geometry onto the 2D screen, why can't it overlay key points on that geometry. I know it can be done, because SolidWorks does it!
Hi Fred,
Regarding your comment, I have the same problem but I've been able to dimension most points anyway if I use a reference line. It's a work around but I've been able to get by with that.
I'm still using 2018 until I can update to 2019 so I don't know anything about that yet.

I have run into that problem before. You can open it with a browser that supports GIFs or you can open it with Preview and use the space bar.
Here's a couple links that came up on a search.

I heard that. +1

Hi Joseph,
When you have the ICD open you can use "CTRL-SHIFT-L" then you can relink the ICS there.

The drawback is I loose all associative on the icd drawing done earlier.
As far as losing all the dimensions you might try this...
I usually setup the front of the part in the scene with the camera picker (front) and the TriBall before I make a drawing. Then it's already set when I go pick the views. It seems to work better if I set it up there instead of when I create the views. Anyway, I don't seem to be losing dimensions as often and you can't always tell which way the part is oriented when you're in there creating views because it's so small.

Yeah, it seems like there is too much ongoing maintenance with Windows. Once in a while I run into problems with IronCAD and it's usually performance related or something that has keeps me from getting work done.
I'm still running W7 but I didn't notice a difference in performance from SP2 to SP3 or SP4.
However, I was having problems I think around SP2 and Kevin suggested I update the video driver. At the same time I thought I just recently updated the video driver and someone else suggested I try IObit to keep the drivers up to date. Sure enough there was a new video driver and ran smooth again. The thing about IObit I noticed was that it updated a lot of other stuff I wasn't aware was out of date and I haven't had much of a problem since. So hopefully it will stay that way. You might give it a try.
Incase you're interested, that was IObit Advanced System Care.

Hi Cary,
Have you tried this because it doesn't work for me? If I open both files and go to file "save as" from the .icd I can see the option to save a copy of the .ics but it's not highlighted or not available.
Usually I just copy and paste both files, rename them and then open the new .icd and relink it to the new .ics using "control shift L". This works but I have noticed the part number for the .icd usually takes a while to update after the relink.

Ok i was close but it appearts this is a bug now. When I resize the ellipse only 2 of the 4 holes maintain the offset relationship.
see video

Tom,
The holes will stay in proportion if you project the whole thing after you're done with the pattern. You probably already got that, but otherwise that does look like a bug with the pattern feature.

Tom,
I just edited the cross section and projected a copy of the holes then I hid your original ones. It doesn't work with blind holes this way though. I'm not sure what to do about that.

Hi Tom,
I don't know if this works the way you want but I just extruded the sketch pattern and deleted it.
-
Well, according to the new Hole Callout tool in IronCAD it is two.
-
I think it should be two different dimensions unless you use a cross-section of the holes with an ordinate dimension but I can't find the answer anywhere.
-
If I have a blind hole (or thread) inside of a pocket what is the standard way to dimension the depth of this hole from the pocket or from the thickness of the material?
Example: If a part has one hole size drilled twenty times both in and outside of a pocket all holes drilled at one depth then you could use one depth for all of these but in the pocket that might not be correct if measured from the inside surface of the pocket. In that case you might need to add another dimension.

Just wondering... did you try to copy the "A" over and change it to "D" to see if the alignment stayed?
-
I get the same thing.

There are a couple ways to make the text like this in IronCAD. The easiest way is probably to download the "negative letters" catalog from here...

... or there is another way you should look at that is explained in the learning center.

Is this what you're talking about?

I downloaded the IC 2012 trial and it took about 4 hours. Then to find out the file was corrupted and wouldn't install is frustating so it was nice to have the disk show up. Kevin suggested however using this download manager. See the note at the bottom of this page (link).

This question just came up again: Why not just buy a new gamer card? For half the price it looks like you get twice the video card... more CUDA cores, larger memory interface, more bandwidth, etc. etc.?
This link is a couple years old but looks like a good comparison. Updating a chip is one thing, but I'd rather not bother with any mods on a new card if I can help it and wanted to see what other IC users might have to say.

Hi,
I am about to install Windows 7 Professional and I have both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions available.
I remember reading a comment online that suggested that IronCAD ran better on Windows 7 32-bit version than on the 64-bit one.
Is that true?
Is the 32-bit or 64-bit version better for IronCAD?
Also - how about XP 64?
Will XP even be supported by IronCAD 12?
Thanks.
Mark
Mark,
Obviously you need a computer that will run a 64-bit OS if you want to install one and I think any 32-bit version of Windows will only support up to 4GB of RAM at the most. I used Win XP Pro 32-bit until I ran into poor performance and needed more memory for larger assemblies. Now there's a lot of info out there comparing performance of the different versions but I don't think you need to look very far. I would just install Win7 Pro 64-bit since that is about the latest and greatest.
Here's a couple links that might help.

Hi Kim,
I don't see anything wrong with your settings except I would tic the Up/Down on the Zoom so you have all the directions.
Here are my settings for the SpacePilot which is not supported anymore.
I hope that helps,
Doug
