  1. Hello

I'm trying to figure out how to create a part that has V-grooved miter cuts that I can fold and unfold like sheet metal. For example, if I wanted to create a miter folded cabinet box out of 3/4" thick MDF board with an open top like shown, what is method that can be folded and unfolded?  I started with a sheet metal part, unfolded it, and then dragged intellishape blocks onto sheet metal part, and then chamfered the blocks. When I attempt to fold it back up, those blocks and chamfers disappear. I would need to leave some material when V-grooving and have slight gap to fold and unfold I believed. Perhaps there is an easy method you could share with me? Help appreciated, thanks, Jeff

  2. I have upgraded to IronCad 2020. I noticed when I want to add new sheet metal stocks it will not let me and buttons to do so are grayed out. Am I missing new procedure to add a new stock material? I do a lot of acrylic sheet with heat bending and have previously entered in new sheet custom sheet stock thicknesses for acrylics like .118 for 1/8", .220 for 1/4", .236 for 6mm PVC Sintra sheet. I don't typically carry over entry additions I have added to sheet stocks in upgrading to a new IronCad  version. I think that is tool table or something. When I upgrade to new version a simply add material stocks as I go with projects. Tips and advice appreciated gang.

  3. I typically will create a part for the decal, making it the thickness of the actual vinyl decal. Apply graphic map to the decal. This part decal will show up in your line drawing to indicate position on a bottle for example. You can also unfold the decal for die-line production size.

  4. I have a display diorama that has a clear enclosure that I have applied decals to represent printed leaves on clear plastic. In my real time scene I could not see the leaves on transparent plastic until I rendered to file.

I stumbled on Transparency Sorting and it has choices for sorting:

Z-sorting(I can not see leaves in real time scene) default setting

Depth peeling (I can see the leaves in the scene)

Can someone explain what Transparency sorting and its different settings are?

Or send me link to information/help. I can't seem to find description of settings

  5. I have been using hdri background, with 1 direct light on in scene (shadow OFF) set to .5 and GI set to full illumination & high quality. I like the render results with these settings. Sometimes I set it to Medium quality and GI to just background illumination seems to speed up render times.

I guess I still don't really grasp the term "bump Normal". If it is deselected you will not see bump effect? If it is selected you will see bumps?

  6. Can someone explain what deselecting "Ignore Bump Normals" in Global Illumination dialog box does? I believe by default it is selected. I deselected it and it seems my rendering increased several hours in render time. I have a metal display frame that has a noise bump shader to give the effect of textured powder coat.

  7. converted.wmvI exported a small 212w x 275h pixel size animation preview at 120 dpi and exported animation as full frame avi file. It opened fine in windows media player.

However, when I do large file size final for presentation at 425 pixel x 550 at 150 dpi and render full frame avi overnight it will not open in windows media player. If I right click and choose to open this large avi file with quick time it plays fine. I had coworker convert the 105mb avi file in xilisoft to a wmv and resampled to 3mb for emailing customer. Is there a file size limit that causes it not to open in windows media player?

Of the Ironcad compression format choices which would you recommend Micrsoft RLE? Microsoft Video1?, or intel IYUV codec? I have not exported with compression yet, as I was trying to get best quality.

  8. I could use some help with animation. I want to rotate 3 triangles that have graphics on them. It will rotate to next facet of triangle to see a new graphic shared on 3 faces, then pause a bit, then rotate to 3rd graphic and pause. Repeat.... I can get the triangle to spin simply by dropping height spin from catalog, but then I can't seem to figure out the pause, and rotate to next graphic facet. Any advice appreciated from the Iron animation gang.

It's like a rotating graphic billboard.

  9. I'm doing a display rendering that has 3 under cabinet lights and would like to hear some suggestion to get down lighting effect. I set up scene with 'start up' hdri for light/reflections, and have background as white. I turned off all the lights, but one is on set low intensity. I have full global illumination & photons on. The 3 LED under cabinet lights I have emission set to 100. It looks ok in preview, but makes for long renderings of course.

How would you guys takle the down lights? Put actual spot lights at each modeled puck light? Tips appreciated
