  1. /3GB switch anyone? Old-school instructions located here On a side note... the "search" function for this community... well, SUCKS..er... does not appear to return all the requested items. Perhaps it is time to re-index all the posts. I know there are better threads on the /3GB switch than the ONLY one that was retruned. Edit: Got a better /3gb link (Search for "boot.ini" vs. "*/3GB*"): Link
  2. The default directory is your "...IronCAD8\Template\" directory. Once you save it there, you should see a new Icon when you choose to add a BOM, which will be your new saved BOM.
  3. ...thats all you had to say. Would there still be workarounds for whatever these "strange" BOM configurations are (like 2D shape BOM entries or something like that)? Either way... it appears to me as if there would not really be any neagtive consequences. Thumbs up!
  4. I often use 2d shapes set to appear in the BOM for drawings, but DO NOT want those 2d shapes to appear in any linked assemblies...
  5. ...Scratch that... It appears to work in 8.2 Nice work! EDIT:... wait... nope. It only works if all the rows are the same height (unfortunately, my headder rows are different and thus I get the random new row height problems again).
  6. Is there a way to set the default row height for new rows added into a BOM? I am using a BOM template as a revision block, and would like the added rows to come it at a nice round ".25", but they always seem to show up at some crazy 14 place decimal. It appears that if you are using a proper BOM, then row heights come it at whatever the template is set to for however many rows were in your template (i.e. if the BOM template had 20 rows, then the first 20 rows use whatever the template is set to, but the 21st row goes back to some random default). I would like to be able to control this default value so that a) I don't have to worry about my Revision Block, and my BOM template dosen't need to be 75 rows tall (the template would only need the 1 non-headder row). Is there some hidden registry value that I missed, or is it hard coded into the program? Thanks!
  7. In a perfect world it would be the command you would use in a BOM to list all the various sheets which your item bubbles appear on... (hint hint nudge nudge)...
  8. Thats what I would do... it sounds the laziest... I mean, easiest.
  9. ..but I have seen people here do it (successfully). If you really intend on getting Vista when it comes out, & you have an available seat of 32-bit XP, I would just install that and use the "/3GB" startup switch (there are numerous threads here covering the switch in detail) and wait till Vista comes out. That will save you a few $$ which you can then spend on more and more memory for your computer, so that you will be able to cope with Vista (& its rumored Memory intensive desktop enviornment) while running additional memory intensive (i.e. large IC models) programs. My $.02.
  10. ...the option for rotating a center mark is now greyed out in v8.2 (the "Orientation Angle" input box still exists though). Is there something about my view/drawing/geometry that is causing this to be disabled, or has that functionality been eliminated, awaiting 8.3?
  11. ...and I have to ask... what about any BOM's (.icb's). Can I just re-name (in windows) & use, or should I re-create. OR, should I bring the old ones into a new drawing, and re-save them as templates through IC? ...additionally, all the drawing catalog items were created in 8.1. Should I create a new catalog (dragging the old items into a new template then back into a new catalog / re-create all the items from scratch on an 8.2 template), or is it safe to just keep on using the 8.1.0 items?
  12. ... I hate when people ask tough questions in a demo... Either way, I don't see "Edit Handle Position", nor do I see "Edit Position" (on the short directional handle...but at work I am still at 8.0), but I do see an "Edit Direction" (technicalities....).... and no, I haven't ever used that option either. However, in keeping with my recent thread hijacking "M.O.", What is the deal with the "Reverse" option on the short handles? Is there any difference between that and a "Mirrior->Move", other than the extra mouse click?
  13. So... whats the word on templates that were made for 8.1 proper (no hotfix), and used in 8.2? Kosher, not kosher? I took a lot of time to make the 8.1 templates (then reverted back to 8.0... but now I'm back at 8.2!) with associated drawing catalogs. Can I just flat out use the 8.1 templates & catalogs, or should I re-create them from scratch (again)? They seem to open fine...I can add sheets, I don't see any duplicate layers/styles....
  14. ...naaaa... it's down at 30 (the models are used all over the place in a HUGE "master" model). It seems like it is only lagging on a couple of models, each of them have 2 intellishapes that are set to "blend all intersecting edges"... I would say this is the problem, but it still *seems* slower than normal. Perhaps it is just time for the annual MS re-install.
  15. I have recently stepped back to IC 8.0, and after checking/unchecking all the various boxes that I *THOUGHT* I always used to, I noticed that the regeneration times on, what seems to me to be, pretty simple parts is longer than I remember. I keep the "Regeneration the part Automaticall" checked...always have. But I am curious as to what other options may be causing my regen times to laaaaaagggggg. Saving brep & facet data? Saving image data to scene on save (I know...both are on save commands, but I am just pulling at strings here)? Nothing else is really calling out to me "hey, I'm slowing you down". So... is there anything, or am I just impatient and in need of a new(er) machine?
  16. Hahaha! Well, I guess I'll have to have a little talk with my father then for teaching it too me. I assume now you are going to tell me that "dohicky" and "thing-a-ma-bob" aren't technical terms for IronCAD elements either....maybe your dictionary is old?
  17. It allows you to select and reposition the master pattern shape (the shape you originally selected to creat a pattern via the tri-ball). By default, you can't bring the tri-ball up on any part of a "tri-ball" pattern after it is created. This switch will allow you to at least select the "master" shape for repositioning (in effect, re-positioning the whole pattern)...if you are into that sort of thing. Only drawback that I can see is if you accidentally move the thing around. It is one of the many defaults that get altered on first use when I am around
  18. ...may be too late, but your imported part sounds to me like it is at an angle to the IronCAD WCS. It may save you some time if you use the Triball to orient your imported part to the global coordinate system before you start re-creating the various items... that way all the future items that you drop in from IronCAD won't be "cocky-walked".
  19. Good tip! I had no idea. Christian. whithout knowing what your specific problem is, no one can tell you if your set up is correct or not.
  20. I've got that same set up and it works pretty well: 1. Make sure the BOM you have inserted is a "template" not a proper BOM (perhaps this is the reason you couldn't add additional sheets to your drawings...). 2. Right Click on the BOM and set it's alignments anchor to top right (that way it will expand down and left) ...only problem with this method that I can see is that you can't "add" a new row to the bottom, you can only "insert" a new row right above the bottom line. This requires you to do a little ctrl-c; ctrl-v action, but it works.
  21. ...ahhh! Gotcha. I didn't realize that the Tools catalog "pattern" was not the same as the Triball "pattern".
  22. Make sure you have "Tools-Options-Interaction-Enable master shape posistioning (with TriBall)" selected. I believe it is not checked by default.
  23. ...not to worry though, if you apply the patches/hotfixes out of order, you find out pretty quickly (as my collegue found out).... ...anyone know what RTFM stands for...
