  1. Hello all, Thanks Kevin for your help in getting me back on board. I have not used IronCAD for 6 months because my new employer only uses Pro E. There is no compison between IronCAD to Pro E 2001(up to PTC's Wildfire). They are so different in ease of use it is like comparing a Porche to a Donkey cart - with a very irritable donkey. Hopefully I can get back to using IronCAD soon and do some fast work and have a lot of fun at the same time. Cheers Geoffrey
  2. Pardon for this msg. It has nothing to do with video cards. I would like to contact jmouser or anyone else who is using both IronCAD and Pro E. I am also not promoting Pro E on this forum. But may in the future be able contribute on the IronCAD side of this relationship. Thanks in advance Geoffrey avian@earthlink.net
  3. Recently when I had to create some BA (British) fasteners I became aware of the serious shortcomings of the Fastener Tool. Like the others I also created my own fasteners and catalogued them - a perfectly reasonable technique for any commonly used hardware. But this does not address fixing the underlying problems of the Fastner Tool. IronCAD needs to work on this. Geoffrey
  4. Hello Shaun, My experience with Rhino is limited. By testing and evaluating it with a potential surface modelling project I found it to be a very capable tool that could offset the surface modeling limitations of IronCad. Even with this limited experience my conclusions are almost identical to the previous posts. In summary: IronCad and Rhino are essential tools in a designers toolbox. Geoffrey
  5. I agree with Andy. We need a bug list as he proposes. It should save time by aiding users who encounter a problem in IC to to determine wether the problem is a bug, a functionality issue or an operator error. Also I would think that it will reduce IronCAD LLC's overhead from duplicate bug reporting and Tech Support requests. Geoffrey
  6. Rick, In my previous email I should have finished my last sentence better than I did. My complaint was about the Windows dialog boxes covering the computer screen just when you don't want them to. Like being momentarily blinded when you are driving a car. Like the example above, it seems that the Windows interface imposes limitations for CAD programmers and users alike. And it was wishful thinking that maybe a Linux or Mac version of IronCAD would have less of these problems. And if there was a Mac version of IronCAD I would dump this Winbox in a minute! Geoffrey
  7. My vote for a Mac or Linux version of IronCAD. Then maybe then we wont have to put up with Mr. Gates dialog boxes covering the screen just when we don't want them to. Now it's like driving down the road and suddenly somebody holds a map in front of your face. Geoffrey
  8. I later discovered that my previous example is not really a bug. It is a lack of functionality that I did not expect. Undo does not undo moved text when working in 2D. Geoffrey
  9. I have also experienced an Undo problem. It occurs - I can repeat it - when working in 2D on a Drawing Template. If I box select both lines and text and move them and Undo will move the lines back but not the text? "All terribly confusing really" to quote Monty Python Geoffrey
  10. A very interesting thread indeed! There is a potential of some really usefull functionality evolving in IC. I will enclose a copy of the most recent email I sent to Chris. I sent him an attached IC.ics file as a example which contained some simple 2D stuff with a D shaped section that I wanted to later turn into a 3D object. Geoffrey "Chris, Thanks for your reply. I think you misunderstood me. What I was attempting to do was create 2D geometry for layout & constructional purposes then use only parts of it as a profile for 3D modeling. And in my example file it was only the D shaped section (which satisfies the criteria for closed profiles etc.) The problem is that IronCAD does not allow selection of just the D shaped section to be used as a cross section for creating 3D parts/shapes. Yes, the D shaped section can be Cut & Pasted in an additional step to create a 3D Extrude or Spin or whatever. But if I want to keep it related to the other geometry I have to Cut & Past the whole 2D layout. Change the elements that I don't need to "Use for construction only". Then perform the Extrude etc. And as soon as the Extrude is complete I have lost all the visible reference to the 2D layout unless "Edit Cross section" is performed. A lot of extra work and not the best solution to my probem. I needed to be certain that it was an IronCAD functionality issue and not a bug"
  11. Rick, No I don't race. I am lazy and prefer the laid back approach to sailing. But I do get to go fast from time to time as I sail a multihull. Where and what do you sail? P.S. we may want to continue this via email and not clog up this board. My address is brolga@earthlink.net Cheers Geoffrey
  12. Hi Severre I am an IronCAD user and also a sailor. I like your design. To answer your question, Mark Stevens in Australia was using IronCAD for some boat design work. He provides CAD service for Jeff Schionning the Australian Multihull designer. Because Mark provides CAD services to clients like Jeff I think he also uses other CAD software. You should be able to locate Mark via Jeff Schionnings web site. If not let me know and I will find it for you. Geoffrey
  13. After having developed a complex 2D Shape I wish to use part of it as a cross-section for a solid. But after selecting the Extrude tool I find that I cannot project the necessary geometry using the Project Geometry to a drawing surface tool. Even though that tool is available for use. Is this a functionality issue or a bug Geoffrey
  14. I agree with the above sentiments. It could mean a lot more work for me. Keep up the good work IC Geoffrey
