Need formula from someone much smarter than me

I have a customer trying to parameterize a hopper. The constants are the top and bottom opening and the 40 degrees as seen in the drawing. Research on the internet has not been any help. Does anyone know the formula to determine the length of the diagonal seam. I have been told it involves using the cosine function but I am having no luck finding it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The law of cosines should work, if you know the length of the two sides and the angle between them.

LAW OF COSINES

c^2 = a^2 + b^2 − 2ab cos©

The length of the side would be calculated by:

c = SqRT ( a^2 + b^2 − 2ab cos© )

Hope that is helpful.
